Some folks on birdsite are tagging our project account in tweets like "hey jack twitter should copy this thing mastodon does". The idea that this is merely about features is short-sighted. Twitter will never, ever, ever be your friend. They are the shareholders' friend, not yours. No feature will let you see what their engineers are working on, what's under the hood. No feature will fix their headquarters in the US following and enforcing US laws and customs worldwide.

One of the story prompts I got for my quarterly Patreon rewards got away from me. It needs a few small edits but I sent the original to its owner last night. It's going to be the November post for the blog, with permission from the original commissioner. It should go live tonight after work.
Monday. First day of the week, or at least it is if you correct your calendars to say "make Monday the first day of the week." I do it so my weekend feels atomic, so my work schedule is just the start of the week, not the whole damned middle.
Today started with the contractors showing up two hours ahead of schedule to install the new heat pumps! Great that they're here, but... yeah, nobody was awake yet.

I don't think I remembered to post this here earlier tonight. I ended up being a terribly productive person today. I helped Keet make jam, I got a brioche dough in the fridge, I made a pretty tasty stew for dinner, and I baked this little lovely number: cinnamon kugelhopf with orange caramel glaze and crushed toffee. https://awoo.space/media/dt0zPXhmEn19kChBoQo

Purgative (CW: Suicide Discussion)
I'm less brittle now than I was then. I'm in a better place to discuss things. I still feel some lingering guilt that I couldn't save Allie, and some sense that my own skills aren't enough to help people truly in need. I'm sorry.
I made this, as a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there can be hope. It if helps you, please take it. Take anything that helps you get to tomorrow. Please don't go.
Purgative (CW: Suicide Discussion)
The only warning we had was two weeks prior. She came out of her room in the middle of some kind of altered state and told us she was thinking of killing herself. Nobody knew how close to the edge she was. We didn't think she was serious.
For years, my only response to suicide talk was "don't discuss it around me; if I think you're serious, I will call 911 and you can hate me from the hospital." I had already failed one friend. I was too afraid to fail again.
Purgative (CW: Suicide Discussion)
Please remember, everyone's response to tragedy will be different.
My roommate Allie Groothof committed suicide in my living room in 2006 at the very tail end of The Bad. It took me two days to decide that a locked door and not having seen her was enough to justify risking violating her privacy to check on her. The cops who responded to the 911 call wanted to know why the character she'd been RPing online wore the same bracelet she had on.
