computer rambling

I'm still amazed that this box works as well as it does. I even have two extra gigs of memory for it (from a friend who wanted to throw it out) but I forgot to pack it when I went here

Oh, and I'm still missing a data cable for the floppy drive. When I found out that I could replace the card reader with a card reader/ floppy combo (which I had lying around as one does) I had to do it

building a computer from new or confirmed working parts is cool but building from technically trash or scavenged parts has a whole other energy

ok, here's one last project release for 2018... prototype design files, example ROM and sources for "SateCard", my successful attempt at a 100% logic-free CompactFlash adapter for the Satellaview's unused hard drive connector

(it's also my first ever attempt at basic PCB design so i'm quite happy that it actually managed to work)

overpopulation

is a myth. Period. It's a lie popularized by capitalists who don't want to have to change their ways.

The problem is not that we have too many people; we as a species produce enough food in a year to feed the entire population several times over. The problem is that corporations would rather throw food away than give it to someone who hasn't paid for it. Food waste (corporate, not personal) is an enormous problem, and "overpopulation" is the myth they use to deflect from it.

Sleeping Town and various other services of mine will be going down for an unknown amount of time on the 23rd as I am unable to pay the server bills and do not have time to migrate to cheaper hosting.

me: finally eats something
also me: huh I feel a lot better
me, having learned nothing: I wonder why

mastodev

The third would be especially great if it contained a link to automatically unfollow the old account and send a follow request to the new one.

mastodev

The feature I'd like most to see in Mastodon is a modal ("pop-over") window that can display notices from the admins/moderators or automated messages. Preferably each message would have a snowflake ID so you could look through the history of messages displayed to your account. Some uses:

* The intro "welcome to Mastodon" stuff
* Site news
* "A user you followed has moved" with a link to the new account

#mastodev

whoever made the ddg conversion widget thank you but converting feet to kilometers and pounds to grams isn't a good default (but it's metric so I guess it doesn't really matter)
