Man goes to Windows. Says thing is not working. Says he's getting a strange error. Says he feels lost and unsure what to do. Windows says, "Solution is simple. Administrator is in the office today. Go and see him. He should know the answer." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But Windows... I am Administrator!"
I've replayed the first few levels on TR1 on so many platforms and to me this "remaster" perfectly illustrates why full path tracing is just a fancy tech demo
also omg I just realized they made enemies' features glow red instead of, idk, lighting the levels
what's interesting to me is that using lighting to enhance a level's feel is a thing in the classic tomb raider engine (later than TR1 afaik), with torches being a consumable item you could use to light up dark corners – a classic trick is using the infinite pistols for light instead! Looking at the IGN footage of the mod, the dev put two bright green lights into the very first secret in the game, completely missing the point of a secret
someone made an "RTX remix" pathtraced version of OpenLara (the free Tomb Raider engine) and wow does it not work in this one, everything looks like shiny plastic, rooms are either way too dark or for some reason super foggy and also Lara's face is a super bright flashlight now
and they replaced all the enemy textures for some reason
btw, if you like Metroidvanias at all or played any of the past games in the series you should pick up Momodora: Moonlit Farewell, it's really good
