thanks for reading this blob of text, hope it was helpful, keep in mind that is just my way of doing things. Make something you like! also don't overthink it, at some point it's not worth it anymore, defaults are your friends bc a bunch of designers already thought about it a lot

on my phone I can have two different styles for the clock and one is infinitely better when I use a colorful background. I also didn't mean "move the shortcuts", but check your shortcuts anyways. Put stuff u need a lot there, I like to have the dialer, my two public transport apps and my two camera apps. You might have only two shortcut slots so ymmv
bonus) check out gestures if your launcher has them! gestures are fast and don't take up space!

5) most important part: now that you've cleaned up your stuff, let's put something nice in that free space. Pick a cute wallpaper!
- get something that is at least at about your screen's resolution, so you don't get ugly jagged edges
- phone screens are pretty amazing nowadays so maybe pick something with intense colors to show that screen off
6) look into your lockscreen settings! maybe set a different cool background, move the shortcuts ▶️​

3) consider an icon theme, just look around on the play store. Use one of the more popular ones because those will support more apps. I don't use one because I use a lot of apps that won't be supported by an icon theme but ymmv
4) embrace minimalism: you might not need a giant clock widget, or a music widget, or a button to open the app drawer (you can use a swipe up, usually!). Anything you remove makes it look more sleek! ▶️​

1) get a nice Launcher, that's the most important part, Nova launcher is the most popular one, I like Lawnchair, Evie Launcher has a good global search, just shop around, look what others use
2) check out icon shapes, most launchers let you set that now and it might make everything look nicer when all icons are circles. Individual shapes are possible too. You might need to set icon shapes in your stock launcher get them system-wide (cont)

I really don't know why Android didn't get notification indicators on apps sooner, it's one of the best things iOS has

Since we're talking about Android home screens:
I use just a really simple setup with Lawnchair, which is a modded Pixel launcher (nice blur effects, notification dots, swipe down anywhere to get the notification center)

also the end pieces apparently don't print well at all, which is funny because those aren't the parts which were automatically nitpicked as "hard to print"

the pieces are a little too wide and a little too short, yay

well, that wasn't gonna get out of there without a fight, and it's become quite brittle anyways
