also idk about you but "electric car man bad" should not be the only reason you wanna move to Mastodon

Hey, did you know your server can have custom emoji? If yours do, you’ll see them in the emoji picker, and if you use them, pretty much everyone across the fediverse will see them!
And specifically for donphan.social users: in addition to the miscellaneous Pokémon-related emojis available in the picker, you can also input any Pokémon name between colons and they’ll show up as a custom emoji!
You’ll even get suggestions as you type along. They’re not shown in the picker because there’s so many of them, it would clog up the emoji picker and make it way heavier to load.
So many new people around here 😲
Welcome everyone!
I am #Tusky, an Android app for Mastodon! (I work with other server software like Pleroma and Pixelfed as well, but 🤫)

if you ever need an example of his ego
this man heads a community effort project and has included six quotes of himself on the landing page alone
long, on moving to Masto
posted this on Twitter but it's probably useful here too:
I'm not gonna say "join Mastodon" or "don't join Mastodon" but please don't join the two instances run by the main developer (mastodon social and mastodon online), they're hopelessly overrun and as a result of that not well-moderated.
Join a small or medium-sized instance and use the public timelines. They're made up from ppl who people on the instance follow, which is why there's instances built around different topics (but you're usually welcome to post about anything). Hmu if you want a recommendation
You can also create multiple accounts, all the good apps support multi-user (I'm recommending Tusky on Android and Toot! (paid) for iOS), if you for example want an AD or an account for gaming and a personal one I'd highly recommend creating them on different instances
If you're new to the Fediverse, here's what made the platform work for me: aggressively following and unfollowing new people.
Whatever standards you've built up on Twitter for deciding to follow someone, throw them out the window. Follow someone because they made a funny or insightful post. Follow someone because their bio says they like pesto. Follow someone because they have a cute fursona. Anything really.
Following is free. And if it doesn't work out, unfollowing is also free.
