re: 'Food'
@masklayer (Uh, not that such things aren't useful to other ppl, just that Silicone Valley seems to rlly love Soylent as a brand/startup-icon)
re: 'Food'
@masklayer making "eat the rich" as unpalatable as possible
UK Peeps, remember to check if yr eligable for the Warm Home Discount & apply with yr energy supplier if you are!
£140 knocked off your energy bill is like, significant
It's not just pensioners, but many ppl on JSA/ESA/low income or are disabled (or have disabled dependents) can also count.
It's kinda confusing on the specifics, and it seems like different companies commit past the Core Group to differing degrees, so.. Worth checking yours out.
https://www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme has more info, albeit scant
https://www.theukrules.co.uk/rules/employment/benefits/heating/warm-home-discount-scheme.html has some more info (no clue on this website/how reliable info is), mainly linking this one cuz it has links to company-specific pages for applying.
Look after yrselves!
Ablism / beware making fun of ‘weird’ products - bc it might be for disabled ppl
Before you laugh at or say a product is weird and bad.
Or for ‘lazy’ people.
Consider—would this be a thing that’d make life easier for disabled people?
Would this be good if somone had coordination or motion problems? Or couldn’t use their hands well?
If someone couldn’t walk?
Often we're not shown as the demographic a thing is aimed for bc we’re not seen as a big enough market. So an abled person is shown in the ad!
PSA: Anyone who works anywhere with a Disabled Accessible Toilet
So many places take the Emergency Pull Cord and tie it up so it doesn't dangle on the floor (usually to 'make it neat'). Often just tied up high, but also to railings, etc is not uncommon.
This completely negates the point of having an Emergency Cord in the first place!
They're that length so that anyone who falls (from a trip, seizure, heart attack, whatever), has the maximum chance of being able to reach it *quickly and easily* before blacking out/etc, regardless of that person's range of motion/vision & manual dexterity.
So, if your management gets you or any other staff to do this? Please let them know how dangerous it is to disabled people (it also fails most H&S codes to do this).
re: Mermaids, TERFs, and a handy way to donate to the former
@ThreeLetterMax@elekk.xyz @ellavescent Ahh gosh.. Mermaids are still going, and going strong?
I've missed all of this recent stuff with ppl being shitty, but..
Heck
I used to go along to their meetings when I was 14, 15. Fare-dodging trains to London to sit with a bunch of other trans kids in a rented recreation room.
I am very glad to hear the charity continues, and from their website, has grown. They were a lifeline for me.
UKPol +
@ellavescent Ohh, nice!
I can't drive, and I'd kinda assumed Motability had been thoroughly killed off by IDS & his successors. I'm glad to hear it hasn't.
@Doggo Blizzard are the game publisher corporation that do Overwatch, Starcraft 2, Destiny 2, Hearthstone.
@theoutrider So Battersea power station thought it'd get into the christmas spirit by putting up some giant christmas baubles.
The problem is that battersea powerstation is mostly a couple of big towers.
thought: nearly every mario game involves bowser kidnapping a beautiful woman, resulting in a (presumably politically charged) conflict in which mario (sometimes alongside an ensemble cast of other warriors) infiltrates bowser's turf to get her back
proposal: you could make a case for almost any mario game being the Super Mario Iliad
Trinity: My name's Trinity.
Neo: *The* Trinity? Who drew the comic about lesbian wolves on the run from the law?
Trinity: That was a long time ago.
Neo: Jesus...
Trinity: What?
Neo: I just thought... you were a guy.
Trinity: I thought so too.
