Creativity Blather
I think overcoming "my creativity must be productive, it must help others somehow" has been good for me
Like, I learn plenty about art from mini painting as much as I do from drawing/etc, and it's cross-applicable, but I still have an internal "it's not really valid tho" brainweasel.
It's also what my brain can focus on happily as well, and doesn't do in my wrists like drawing for the same amount of time can. Like, focus stuff is really annoying (doing more music! I'd like that not to be hugely effortful to get my brain to focus on. but it is :| ), but having something that isn't "ugh this is so much effort why" for my brain at all is something I'm grateful for.
Kinda wary of if I burn out on it, but I know myself well enough by now to know that won't be permanent.
If that happens, doubtless I'll bounce over to sewing or drawing or gamedev or something again for a bit, then bounce back to it in a year or two. 🤷 In the meantime, enjoy it.
In light of that, I should be less self-conscious about posting stuff here. So here's some playing with paints n skin tones on the Peak Conan Aesthetic gang from WarCry.
part of this is "gosh wheelchair brakes are so, so bad" tho
like, whoever thought "put 1cm of metal bar against the top of the tyre. that'll probably be enough." deserves something suitably educational
..probably an engineering course, come to think of it?
lacks the whole Hades Ironic Punishment vibe but would end up with far more productive results
(that is nowhere near enough to stop g-forces on a bus or tram, so bracing yourself constantly with your hands or feet is a thing)
@theoutrider a real Monkey's Pa situation
@noiob this says more about my utter ignorance of electronics than anything else I realise :p
@noiob without context I was left imagining an piece of gym equipment that replaces wearing ankle weights/etc with some eldritch combination of steel bars, springs and aggressive branding
Listening to the new Age of Sigmar novel that massively fleshes out the Idoneth society (angsty fish-elves), and it's good so far
But I can only go by audio b/c only got the audiobook, and AoS as a setting has a habit of unnecessary proprietary names for animals
So ending up with situations like
"Wherever larger predators lurked, drawn to the scents and sounds of the Enclave like Voltaire to carrion.."
Okay, cool
Headcanon accepted
re: hyperfixation (adhd)
@variance that sounds.. unenviably confusing, yeah x.x
re: hyperfixation (adhd)
@variance I'm pretty darn aro so I can't go "same" here, but nontheless that makes a lotta sense as an analogy, and jeez relatable on the hyperfixation
@variance those are good goals tbh
re: Earth Defence Force 5, giant bugs
@hokaze@queer.af I wouldn't say it's as easy as possible (there's timing on two invisible cooldowns to get right with more complicated stuff), but it's a heck of a lot easier than EDF4's shield-cancelling by like, orders of magnitude.
Chaining jumps/boosts is now an ability you get from 2 augment loadout slots, which can also be stuff that reduces recoil or makes shields more durable or suchlike. With max you can have 4 jumps & 4 boosts before hitting the ground, which can scale most skyscrapers or get 2/3rds of the way across many levels.
Earth Defence Force 5, giant bugs
Me n K have unlocked the harder difficulties of EDF now and yeeeah, those gold ants hit hard
My Fencer build has stayed prettymuch the same throughout though, with occasional variations [blasthole spear, dispersal mortar / hand cannon, heavy mortar]
I do love that the class with the biggest guns is also now the most agile
Zipping through the air chaining jumps is the most satisfying movement-in-game I've experienced in a long while, Spider Man PS4 included
Q: What is a "lightsaber"?
You: An elegant weapon, from a more civilised age.
Me, an Intellectual: It's a stick that makes you savvy with the Light Side.
