To put it more concisely:
Ontological and cultural-memetic explanations of identity are non-exclusive and I think that's really cool.
A huge amount of who I am and what I enjoy is shaped by the subculture and microculture around me.
That's okay. That doesn't make it any less real.
Maybe in other hypothetical contexts I wouldn't have ended up as a glow-loving fox-kin, but this is the context I actually inhabit. Culture makes us who we are.

@Oneironott very, very good visual novel about three teenagers at a Christian summer camp, stuck in a cabin overnight and waiting for the devil to literally appear. It's not kink-related but the writing is incredible.
