What I'm saying is, "reality" is one big-ass Necker Cube.
an Objective Reality might exist, but that's not the world we as people actually live in. The universe we experience is built inside our heads, out of mental language and implicit metaphor resulting from eons of evolution.
Our stories and narratives are important. Our metaphors shape our reality. Subjectivity matters.
And, if we want, our reality can be sculpted.

@SarcasmKid@mastodon.social spent literal years hanging around furries. I was a catgirl, but of dubious furry status. The in a burst of insight I realized I was a fox and not a cat, and everything fell into place.
@natecull I mean, they talk about it, sure, but only within the narrow framework of "our fundamental concepts of utilitarianism are clearly correct".
@natecull See also: a really unexamined utilitarianism that doesn't do much to actually question what is being maximized, or at what cost.
One of the best pieces of advice I've ever read is "trust your future self".
It's easy to worry about future decisions you might have to make. It's /really/ easy to worry about your goals or desires changing sometime down the road.
It's okay. Future You will probably make reasonable decisions based on what feels right at the time, using the information then present. Trust them to handle things when the time comes, if it does.

@sev@witches.town @Nire ...I actually had never seen that take on why queer communities are the way there are. I'd been wondering for a while about that kind of secondary effect on our communities and culture.
