Ah, okay. I figured out what went wrong here.
I set the post to Public, not thinking about how that it would mean it spreading off of my instance and into other spaces that lack the cultural context.
...So they'll be unlisted in the future.
@literorrery @ElectricKeet Sure. But for the Genderoftheday posts, it *is* pretty easy to arrive at an unintended reading from outside of the intended audience/context.
@ElectricKeet I think it's important to keep in mind that the target audience and the total audience can be different, though. A post being read in a way other than what was intended doesn't mean I'm absolved from consequences of that reading.
@Oneironott What do you think?
In all seriousness though, if a transphobe can read a Gender of the Day post and think I'm on their team, is this... really a good thing for me to be doing?
It's an easy joke to misread without context.
@noxarivis hi, do I know you?
Today's Gender of the Day is: tuned percussion instrument #genderoftheday
This is not the first, second, or probably even third time in my life I've said "the context is lesbians".
Actually, now that I think about it, it's socially pretty terrible that "epithet" was at some point started to be used as euphemism for "slur".
Moving to @starkatt
I'm a leftist trans gay fox girl. More than one thing can be true at a time. I believe in agency, subjectivity, and beauty.
In my day job, I'm an apprentice electrician.
