Dear internet: is there anything that helps caffeine withdrawal headaches other than more caffeine? Getting on a red-eye flight tonight :/

dumb furry shit

@masklayer I'm a big fan of little nub antlers

So apparently I get caffeine withdrawal headaches after only like, 30 hours now.

Damage control triage is a pretty entertaining part of FTL, especially in the Flagship fight.

"Okay so I have two hull breaches, three fires, my crew is half dead, there's an incoming boarding party, and the life support room is broken and depressurized... but if I can keep my weapons working, and get one or two good volleys off... things will be fine. It's *fine*."

@aesmael Object permanence is amazing, or is me being impressed by it amazing?

:D :D I just figured out that comiXology is a thing, and I can get there via a referral link from my local comic shop.

So now I can read digital editions of comics AND support my local shop AND get DRM-free download copies.

And a lot of the fun of the game is building working loadouts/playstyles around weapons that maybe aren't perfectly *optimal*, but are the best you've had access to in a run.

What I love about the way FTL is balanced is that some weapons are more generally useful than others -- and some are kinda bad most of the time -- but almost every single weapon has a loadout that it's an ideal fit for and is exactly what you want.

I don't actually like Captain's Edition as much as the stock FTL game.

FTL is really beautifully balanced. CE adds a lot of stuff that dilutes a lot of the core mechanics and economies, and while the new content is interesting, the balance and tradeoffs in the limited stock toolkits are ultimately what makes FTL compelling.

I'm still impressed by object permanence.

Like, I can go into a cafe on the other side of the country, leave for a year, and come back, and it's still basically the same.

That's kind of wild to me?

Animism/Animation (CW: Car death. Yes I'm serious.)

@KawaSeadrake Best part of the film, though :)

@Fuego ...y'know I was actually really close to responding to this in earnest :D

It's not like this is a new discovery. ELIZA was written fifty years ago.

("how does that make you feel?" being the archetypal Therapist Question.)

It can legit be a really useful way to approach certain kinds of conversations, but recognizing the functions and limits of that style of communication is important.

Realization: the structure of Therapist Questions is in part a specific way of moving a conversation along without having to overtly show any of the therapist's actual thoughts.

Being obviously wrong or misunderstanding is weird and off-putting, so direct input is only given at specific points.

My cell phone has apparently decided that just after 22:00 is the perfect time to send me spammy manufacturer push notification adverts.

I want to reach through the screen and give whoever is responsible my meanest look.
