Update: the police officers arrived to take the report at exactly 11pm.

They seemed surprised I was asleep in bed. They were courteous enough in the conversation, though.

Actually, that's a pretty useful thing to remind myself of, so I'm busting this out into its own post:

If I let a boundary lapse when it's inconvenient, I'm defeating the point of having it in the first place.

Also even if it's 11pm and raining, when (if) they arrive I'm not inviting any police officer into my home.

sucks for both of us but what's the point in having a boundary if I let it lapse when it's inconvenient.

g'night.

I think it's really cool that I know a bunch of people who were AMAB, transitioned to something in the vicinity of "woman", then later moved to "oh my gender is way more interesting that that, imma re-adopt back a lot of guy-spectrum stuff."

Don't let people talk shit about "de-transition" or whatever as if there's one simple narrative.

fox coping (~+, actually?)

One thing I try to do when something shitty is happening is to imagine Fox sitting on my shoulder and saying "you appreciate having new experiences! This is one of them."

I had a fox-person say something along those lines to me after something really emotionally confusing happened. It actually helped a whole lot.

When reading people's names online I can usually guess the phonemes pretty reliably, but a lot of the time syllable stress is something I can't make a good guess at.

G'night. Tomorrow, I'll keep doing my best to do my best.

Related tabletop RPG opinion:

the stock joke,
Player: "I rolled a 3 on the investigate check"
GM: You realize... you're in a room."

is funny like, maybe twice and just inane after that.

Tabletop RPG opinion: Apart from limited circumstances like warning about a sneak attack or trap checks, "roll to see if you notice a thing" is a bad mechanic.

You know what made my workday better? Wall-to-wall listening to The Adventure Zone. I'm a bit over halfway through The Eleventh Hour arc and it's so good. Very effective at taking my mind somewhere else, though sometimes trying to not randomly start laughing when around coworkers is a challenge.

Fuck it I'm going back to Chrome.
The ISP already has my entire history anyway.

I seem to have finally learned how to reliably spell "brachistochrone".

Nice.

Thing I enjoy: Glowsticks that still have a tiny bit of glow in them three days later.

GRS, terminology

My favorite way to name The Surgery is "GRS", expanding to "genital reconfiguration surgery".

Because that's literally what it is. There's really no need to make anything about sex or gender or whatever.

"Personal brands" reduce complex human personalities and subjectivity into a series of marketable expectations and roles deemed fit for consumption.

They are not benign.

Reminder that @Leucrotta wrote the exact perfect description of what it feels like to be a fox:

"First, slam a batch of espresso. Then, when that wears off, find somewhere you're warm, loved, and completely safe."

The idea that you’re obliged to offer everyone who’s wronged and harmed you a redemption arc is both pervasive and toxic. If they redeem *themselves*, great. But you’re not obliged to be a part of it, to believe that they’ve completed it, or to extend forgiveness.
