ghosting as a penance? (~)
huh
i seem to do this thing where if i think i've bothered someone, if they aren't obviously close, i'll just ghost them forever--no matter how much i want to get to know them
it makes sense to my brain for some reason that this is a reasonable penance for annoying anyone ever
even though this is pretty harsh, i wonder if it's at all appreciated? i mean, nobody would likely notice one less hovering presence, would they? and if they did, would they be happy about it?
@SomeEgrets oh yeah, i totally get that
actually, the only reason i don't mind the separation so much is that i use the two places for pretty different things--but if i didn't, i don't think i'd appreciate the mindshare of duplicating the things i felt to be worth it all the time
i just meant that sometimes i see crossposters set up as a twitter backup plan, so some feeds basically become read-only, and you don't know until you try to interact with them
so it was basically an "oh! i see you!"
@SomeEgrets oh!
i always wonder if people who crosspost are even existent here
@LongLevy ohhh, that's what you meant
and yeah, if you write a page and then format it nicely later, it does kinda blow that you might need to add some CSS to make it look the same
@LongLevy wait, why does it do that..?
aren't newlines in html content just rendered as a space, making trailing whitespace redundant?
@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz dualie squelchers have so much range. they are definitely my best dualies
you don't even need to be aggressive, because they are unbelievable at keeping stage control, so you can even hang back and just ink the territory ahead--picking off anyone who breaks through the most heavily contested areas
that's often enough to push entire teams back to their base
@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz totally!
i triple-main for the most part (new squiffer, luna, and splat brella), but i play so many different weapons overall
it's not spreading yourself thin to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of anything that catches your interest--and sometimes you can figure out neat strategies for different modes
plus it's fun to experiment
re: insects
@SomeEgrets oh that's, uh...fun! 😶
re: harassment/abuse
@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz but what i was getting at is that the people who are in the mobs i see usually aren't the victims friends
i mean, their friends *do* feel pressure… but not to join the mob–they often feel pressure to withdraw
this has other problems, because that evaporates the support network of the person being attacked, meaning those friends have basically become enablers
re: harassment/abuse
@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz oh, i definitely agree
it's also really frustrating because, even if everyone realizes this is happening, it's *extremely* hard to hold a mob accountable since focus can't be easily distributed among a group without dehumanizing it
these are *individual people* doing nasty things; not some faceless abstract entity like a mob
re: harassment/abuse
@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz that...sounds like a lovely dynamic
the mobs i usually see are large crowds, convinced by someone with a grudge that someone they don't like is Bad™
any individual thing that someone can dig up to paint you as nasty is enough to steer a crowd using sensationalism
oh hi! i do computers, and sometimes draw stuff~ i like lo-fi things and cute aesthetics!
