@raccoon oh! something that will help a lot with ruby:

gem install pry pry-doc pry-byebug

with pry you can navigate namespaces like directory structures. so, literally typing "ls" to see the things that are defined, and "cd"-ing into them

with pry-doc, you can pull up documentation for the things you see with ls by typing "? <thing>"

with pry-byebug, if you "require 'pry'" in a file and put "binding.pry" somewhere, it drops you to a debugger at that line, and you can do the other pry things

@noiob it played really nicely on the 3ds too!

i actually liked that game a lot!

systemd hot take

@codl i like it too actually

"journalctl -f" is so much nicer than "tail -fn0 /var/log/* /var/log/*/*" for getting an overview of everything happening on the system

it also has really nice startup information with "systemd-analyze critical-chain"

i just don't like the default some systems have where the default log location is on tmpfs

i guess i got a recent appreciation for it because of heidisql and fl studio?

they kinda solidified that delphi can actually do *real* things, and wasn't some nightmare to maintain despite the fact that you make interfaces like if it were visual basic

it's funny how having *any* association with vb instantly makes me want to run in the opposite direction

i feel oddly compelled to write something in delphi

i don't even know pascal

digging through my old photos

@codl awww, they're pretty cute!!

you're definitely better than me at traditional drawing

digging through my old photos

@codl i loved sunkern in super mystery dungeon!

I wanna offer a game for GDQx but

@karma oh, don't worry! runs are almost always really fun to watch, even if they have quirks in them and not everything goes perfectly

besides, if you think you'll regret passing up the opportunity if you don't try, you should totally do it!

being early on your trans path might be a little tricky though, since that could mean some dysphoria--but know that no matter how early on you are, you are valid!

you don't need to put your life on hold--live as you like!

Celeste

@noiob i loved that place, it's was just so...atmospheric

@red@icosahedron.website @codl that's quite the fan-fare you've got there

@noiob me too actually

i just didn't find meat boy's aesthetic to be very compelling, so that's probably why

i definitely want to get through celeste though!

probably because it feels nicer i guess? and also i hear it has a really nice story, and i totally dig that

@noiob i remember this one!

i can't remember how many attempts it took me, but i definitely was stuck there for a while

@noiob haha nope!

i found it considerably harder than the main game in places

The Trans Experience (tm), Dragons

@somekindofcrow welp

i have two examples of this being true, and zero of it not

@noiob good luck! it gets pretty brutal

i won't spoil anything, but i made it a few stages after a shift in the aesthetics of the game--and oh gosh, some stages are just *mean*

@noiob oh yeah! and because of that, i actually played more of it there than i did on pico-8 proper

and since a lot of the mechanics are so different between the two, i also discovered that if i play one, it takes a little bit of time for me to not be Very Bad at the other again

ooh! there's a rust package for org-mode

maybe it's time to take the plunge and write some literate rust

@noiob i was completely blindsided by that!

i mean, i giggled when i first saw the icon on the computer since i like making things in pico-8, and definitely perused celeste--so i thought it was just a little easter egg only some people would get

but that turned very quickly into an "OH GOSH YOU CAN ACTUALLY PLAY THIS! WHAT??"
