humanity has evolved beyond the need to secretly think aqua created some real bangers

(yes, this is pretty much the first time i've seen any indication that someone paid attention to a thing i did on there, why do you ask? hee)

i got a comment on my blog recently, and gossssh, even though it's just one, it's super-validating to have made enough of an impression that someone would take the time to write something in response to words that i put out there

...and not have it be on social media

huh! that's a higher ratio using it than i expected

(i wonder how much of that is from how they are a part of the default paradigm of linux desktops?)

i'm curious! do you use workspaces (multiple desktops) in your os of choice?

is "forces everything they own to be linux" a personality?

because if it is, i might need to reevaluate some things

(glances at my phone that's half termux scripts at this point) i'm sure this is shocking information

this is typically how i linux, and i guess i'm just determined to treat windows like a linux by any means necessary

oh! if you thought this was an exaggeration, i also have 3 monitors, so the problem is actually worse than you might think!

my current desktops are:

1: lisp things! currently with fennel and scheme shenanigans, possibly seeing how to interop fennel with ruby, and seeing what problems would arise if i removed the global namespace mangler in fennel
2: researching/maybe eventually fixing kiwix-android, the thing that lets you download wikipedia, since it can't open its packaged local files. also kotlin
3: japanese practice, and rom digging
4: my work-work
5: my vm that i host docker things from and test linux contributions. also long-running tunnels and monitors
6: plan 9 research and attempting to figure out how to get various things working on my dedicated plan 9 pi and researching kernel things (kinda empty rn though)

i'm ignoring a lot of other things i have on each desktop, and the meaning of these desktop changes as i start drawing or composing music, or doing more messing around with various projects that interest me

there is also a WSL component underneath all of this that isn't immediately apparent

me: restarting for updates is such a hassle, i wish windows could just apply them without that

them: restarting isn't so bad

me (with 6 desktops, each with entire running environments, vms, separate creative tools in the middle of projects which take minutes to even start up, and a mountain of carefully curated and placed browser/file manager/terminal windows set up to research and work on something in specific): i guess

the one upside of daylight savings is the plausible deniability it gives for having an off day

i know this is literally just mindfulness, but it turns out for me, that extends far beyond just the circumstantial ways that i've always assumed to which it only applies

or like, having a sip of coffee! i don't know the last time i really paid any actual attention to that entire experience. it's just become a "thing that i do" while some tiny part of my subconscious brain acknowledges that "cofe gud"

like, if i'm in the shower and i turn up the temperature just sliiightly more than warm, everyone seems to acknowledge that feels nice, right? but it's actually amazing how much that appreciation changes if i actually pay attention to it, and not just casually disassociate the entire time

something i've been doing recently is really trying to pay attention to things i take for granted

turns out a lot of extremely mundane things are actually incredible, but my brain just backgrounds them; ignoring how mind-bogglingly satisfying they are because of how "expected" they've come to be

i've literally robbed myself of this appreciation for so long that i forgot it existed--things that, if you you mentioned them to others they'd probably roll their eyes because they're doing the same

i actually did it..!
