@typhlosion tiny game
@typhlosion Sprites sounds like the next step to be honest.
@OchotonidKnight @typhlosion Once you've got sprites figured out, you can really dive into playing with actual game logic.
@typhlosion As SPC stuff goes, I keep hoping a tracker will magically appear (or an extension to an existing one like OpenMPT) that allows for playing with echo and modulation and all the stuff that makes the chip so nifty!
Perhaps I should play with IT2SPC more, but last time I did I made files that crashed whatever I was using to play SPC files...
Anyhow, I'd say to pick some simple existing games that can be implemented in textmode but gradually built up to use whatever needs learning next.
@ElectricKeet isn't there an XM2SPC floating around somewhere?
@ElectricKeet i kinda want to make an lsdj-style snes tracker... that'd be dope
the other day i had the silly thought of making a "snes link cable" that could hook two consoles together via their controller ports so you could even do the equivalent of 2xgb stuff
@typhlosion Yeah, but I don't think it'll use the advanced SPC features?
@ElectricKeet ahh, hmm
so for snesdev tomorrow, what should i do:
- try to figure out how the other bg modes work (particularly in terms of workflow adjustments needed to get the image conversion stuff to work right for them)
- experiment with sprites and oam
- ??? spc stuff maybe?????
- try to think of a tiny game i can make to motivate my learning, before i start on the much bigger game i want to make eventually
