Mastometa conclusion

@Rosemary the main thing off the top of my head is celebrities developed a culture of quote tweets to push visibility into responses with toxic folks

there's not a good mechanism for doing that here, and on top of that the general culture of mastodon tries to engage in actual arguments more politely

there's a slight problem with how discourse works in general but people aren't rude to other folks when they're tossing their views up like that and that's my main worry point

Mastometa conclusion

thanks for replying to this everyone

i think i'm feeling a lot better about this, as the tools that foster a toxic celebrity environment are a lot more neutered here :ok_hand:

Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

@Gargron i'm not asking for an answer

i'm asking if it's becoming a problem at all yet

Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

@KawaSeadrake all those people you listed are very open and engaging to other folks though so it's not like they don't participate in the community

Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

@Gargron mostly because when you concentrate lots of people like this you end up with popular cliques of people who effectively end up owning a lot of cultural context around certain circles despite the fact that they themselves don't intentionally interact with those people

too much cultural power given to people who don't engage in the broader community but instead "hand down", for lack of a better way to put it

Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

@Gargron nah that doesn't mean you shouldn't be a part of the discussion

it's contextually different for you - as the primary developer and leader of the platform that's a pretty natural thing to have happen - but I recognize that you do try to contribute to the friendliness and kindness of the platform, so this isn't necessarily oriented towards you

but in general i just worry when there are people with tons of followers and few follow backs

Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

@Gargron people who are too culturally significant to the platform to ignore and end up attracting an unsustainable amount of followers

Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

@thatdelphox@occult.camp well that's good. Maybe I'm just having social anxiety and getting it mixed in with my general Mastodon feelings

Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

More than just friendliness, but kindness too

Mastometa question, comparison to birdsite

Do we have a problem with Mastodon celebrities like Twitter did?

I am always worried about falling into twitters pitfalls and to some degree I think it's unavoidable but that's why I want a culture of friendliness when possible here and that's gotten really hard lately I feel like so this feels like an important question to ask

@jasminehenry yes! There's the proof I didn't think hard enough on this lol

@jasminehenry hmm maybe I'm not thinking about the specific games deeply enough in my last sentiment

@jasminehenry I don't agree with them!!! You have to carve out a whole separate story to respect the players choice in their character and that's not easy!!! The only ones that might not count is if they have 0 content that changes context because you play a female character and I don't think that's true for any of your games

racism, reverse-ist bullshit

@Siphonay@octodon.social I don't usually laugh at these things but LMAO WOW

racism, reverse-ist bullshit

@Siphonay@octodon.social oh my god

clyp.it/pngw4emw this shitpost entered my mind and i had to make it to get it out of my system, sorry.
