@Jacel ohhhhhhhhhhhhh that's probably why I don't remember it

@Jacel invisiboth? I don't remember that at all. Weird

@Siphonay@octodon.social @CobaltVelvet@octodon.social I'm gay and I over explain

@CobaltVelvet@octodon.social @Siphonay@octodon.social visigoths are a historic German faction of nomads who are known for something that I forget

Anyway I've never seen the invisible visigoths pun before and I'm happy to see it

@Siphonay@octodon.social @CobaltVelvet@octodon.social bless you Alice

Thought I saw the pun "invisigoths" somewhere but it was just my brain so please enjoy the pun as I do

what the heck how is this kobold so cute this is important to at least let you know who deserves attention for a week now

@Felthry scaleway is a hosting service that is European, they are not affiliated with Amazon. I think they run their own datacenters

@Felthry yeah but you wanting to know is enough! I don't mind explaining stuff at all

@mallaidh@witches.town I love when I get to see him on my commute but I haven't worked up the courage/social energy to ask his owner for pats

@Felthry nah Paris and Amsterdam are scaleways two choices iirc and awoo was already set up for paris in its first server incarnation

@Felthry amazon s3 is a file hosting service you can use to share files publicly too

It's basically a web-ready cloud hard drive

@Felthry we want to make sure the site is responsive even if images load slow so it's better for data to be in Paris since that's where the awoo server is if that makes sense

@Felthry ok so we store images in S3 which is also where people view it currently

When you upload an image you upload to awoo when then uploads to s3 because The awoo server does not want to share keys to write or delete data but also this takes processing power to do so the longer it has to deal with uploading the slower awoo in general will go

However when you read, it tells the client to download the image rather than serve the image itself
