@Felthry it's the service that connects your client to the actual Mastodon code running and encrypts your traffic between it without the server needing to know what the specifics of the encryption are

I should really study nginx more so I know what I actually did but it was a lot easier than trying to drill through docs haha

Having worked on Mastodon just helped me solve an issue at work (securing a cloud service running on http behind https using nginx)
