Maybe it's discontent.. sure what to call it.
Just... dissatisfy comfortable? Not uncomfortable enough to try to change things.. unsure how or why?

I don't like it. Some negativity is bleeding into everything even though I try to be positive.

I find myself day dreaming a lot of escapist fantasy a lot more these days and devouring also sorts of average at best, trashy at worst science and fantasy novels. Like way more than I did even in the worst parts of my not great childhood.
But at the same time, I'm moderately successful, not drowning in a pile of debt or broke or being abused. I'm just unhappy a lot having trouble holding on to fleeting moments of happiness and my general outlook of the future is dark and scary.

Dear Software Developers,

When a service is utilizing 2TB, yes 2 Terabytes of RAM (DDR4 of course) on a physical machine... and still unstable, crashing because insufficient resources tossing more RAM at the problem is not going to fix it.

Tossing more physical nodes at the problem is likely not going to fix it either...

Ribeye was on sale for 6 bucks per pound... so that is a ribeye with portabella mushrooms, onions and bellpeppers for dinner. Marinaded the steaks and mushrooms together, sauted the veggies on the side in the marinade (green apple hard cider with onions, garlic, crushed red pepper, black pepper, green pepper, coriander and dill)

basted steaks with sauce from veggies and toss it all together on the plate :D

My shoulder is killing me because some install work was an extra pita today and the weather is crappy.

Now my body is like oh on top of that you get to be really squirmy and flustered now, enjoy!

Supposed to be off today.. but boss forgot to update the pager duty rotation... so I got stuck with a few pages.. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised given how stupid complicated the new schedule is.

Why? Because we were supposed to hire more people before switching to 24/7 coverage... we have not been able to hire or get a req for swing shift.. and one person on day shift volunteered to cover 2 shifts a week but he is hourly so his work week is Saturday to the next Sunday and he has to work 5 days a week where as I'm salary but not overtime exempt so I can only work 40 hours in 7 days consecutively so this is what my team kludged together with my boss.

Blah... so not thrilled with new work schedule.

It is still 10 days of work out of 14 but ugh..

Week One: Mon-Tuesday Wed-Off, Thurs-Fri, Sat-Sun-Off

Week Two: Mon-Thur, Fri-Off. Sat-Sun

Week Three: Mon-Tues, Wed-Off, Thur-Fri, Sat-Sun off

Repeat until I can't keep track of whether I'm working or not.

of course on my last day of work this week the following happens:

US storage B site has complete power loss including stand by generator failure for 8+ hours

Japan site has network detonation several hours before my shift

Get handed a ton mysql slave fix work as a result of first outage.

Japan site has major explosion again..

Toronto site explodes...

turns out 3 days + weekend vacation was not as relaxing as I hoped...

Thanks brain... how did we manage to get -less- sleep while on vacation than on a work day? Blah sleepy but things to do..

My now ancient by handheld device standards HTC M8 One is dying, crashing a lot. Looks like bad memory.

I'm not in a position to outright buy a new phone but I could easily finance one, in retrospect I feel a little silly for paying for Jump for 5 years and never upgrading because at the time they did not offer separate phone insurance at the time

I could upgrade to a LG G7 ThinQ for 30 bucks a month.. and get a second one free at moment.

This does not really make up for the fact that when I negotiated my original salary I was not expected to be on an oncall rotation, work second shift or work weekends.

Second shift and oncall have been a thing for about 6 months. Working weekends starts after July 5th.

Getting a surprise you didn't expect, that is a good thing but at the same time is disappointing because neither you or anyone else is happy with how it worked out.

Aka... I got a 2.85% raise today. I was not expecting a raise at all because I new how fucked our ACR budget was. My boss was glad to be able to give me something but really wanted to get me much more substantial one but I'm already the highest grossing member on the team.

When I open a ticket with title
"Please Install x number of servers in Rack X"

Please understand I'm baffled with two separate people call me with in 2 minutes of each other to ask which rack I would like the systems installed in.

Oh hey the friday night while storm dragon is oncall datacenter explosions are all done and fixed... 3 hours after they started..
