re: I'm depressed... mostly ok, but rambly.
@JulieSqveakaroo Huh. We got a LOT of us shy folk around feelin' kinda lonely and isolated. I'm really not much of a gamer so I have zero suggestions but... maybe there's something that does, like, small local multiplayer games and has a little social component that our crew could colonize and hang out? Something lowkey where we know it's just folks from our circle... The 2023 equivalent of "old farts playing canasta." :)
@eredien @anthracite Oh, fantastic! I'd ask for the recipe/tips but sadly I developed a DAMN SHELLFISH ALLERGY SHORTLY AFTER ARRIVING TO NOLA. >_< I could probably get away with a couple bowls a month though... Hmm... Yeah, hit me with it anyhow if you could. :)
@eredien @anthracite Or is this literally something coined by Yinglet... uh... fanciers and added to Masto? I thought I found an instance of it being used on Twitter, but it was in a search results and the encoding was badly broken. I think I'm leaning atm to "it's purely a yinglet thing that got added" but...
@eredien @anthracite OK this is driving me to complete and utter madness, because masto clearly recognizes that character as a "zh upper" of some sort, but I can't find ANYTHING ANYWHERE about what language this is actually a "zh" in except for... sigh... yinglet. :D Could you share your Unicode sources? I'm especially having trouble finding the Albanian -- I thought they used standard Latin and Cyrillic?
@eredien @anthracite My other favorite thing to do with it is "Posole de Los Muertes," which is basically just Mormon Funeral Potatoes with lots of Hatch chiles, hominy instead of potatoes, and tortilla chips instead of corn flakes.
@eredien @anthracite Here ya go, this should satisfy all your soup needs. :> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mcxxMbfFjs
Seriously, I love soup personally. My go-to dish right now is an accidentally-semi-vegan mutant posole with black beans, chipotles, and hominy. So damn good.
I've also been ready to murder a bowl of French Onion soup lately, after seeing an image of one online.
@chimerror you don't have the wales splatbook do you
all welsh start with mindspeech at level 4+INT
and it's a logarithmic effect scale so as a welsh elder tom jones probably has a broadcast radius of, back of the envelope math here, about 7000 to 8000 km
he can only hear you back if you hold a casino chip tightly in your fist and concentrate on his visage
@eredien @anthracite Lots of sensible-sounding advice from locals on https://www.reddit.com/r/NewOrleans/comments/r2x8zv/how_to_make_a_proper_gumbo/ too. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
@eredien @anthracite Dude, Peg doesn't even understand *soup*. :D And I don't really like okra nor mucilaginous foods in general, so I'm not really all that into gumbo. I can tell you that this guy can almost certainly steer you right, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76JXtB7JFQY Be advised this is just one of many valid forms of gumbo and other recipes might be radically different.
@porsupah @owashii@plush.city @Austin_Dern @mawr (though to be fair, much of Gravity Falls fan theory turned out to be uninteresting on the grounds that it proved to be OBJECTIVELY RIGHT -- the fans did an amazing job with [rot13 spoiler]chmmyvat bhg gung Fgna jnf gur Fvk Svatrerq Nhgube'f gjva, sbe vafgnapr[/rot13] for instance)
@porsupah @owashii@plush.city @Austin_Dern @mawr All I can tell you about Gravity Falls lore is that it's the source of the single most facepalmy fan theory I've ever seen.
Somebody on a Steven Universe forum INSISTED they saw the Four Diamonds' sigil on something in Gravity Falls and they doubled down on the notion that this was CLEAREST PROOF that GF and SU were in the same universe.
Yeah. They spotted this "sigil" on a fire hydrant. It was a NFPA 704 hazard diamond. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
@owashii@plush.city @Austin_Dern @mawr @porsupah I missed out on Spongebob as a kid/teen altogether, but Alex Bale's Spongebob Iceberg videos are some of the only "deep" fan-theory stuff I've ever actually enjoyed. Yeah, on the surface Spongebob plays like a fairly ordinary wacky kids cartoon for me too, but there's a *lot* of interesting stuff in the background and you can tell the creators put an *absurd* amount of thought into the show. :O
@hystericempress It's especially funny for me, as someone who remembers when WOTC was *the little guys* fending off a Palladium lawsuit back in '92...
@Leucrotta I would give even odds each individual one of those exits in New Orleans and has for some time. @anthracite, you wanna weigh in here? 😆
@chimerror Hey, have you looked into Ozymandias (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1768280/Ozymandias_Bronze_Age_Empire_Sim/) yet? It's an attempt at a 4x than can actually be played in polynomial time and/or human lifespans. :) I haven't tried multiplayer yet but the single player campaigns have that same appealing "every nation is its own puzzle with its own very particular difficulties." I also need other Ozy players around so I can figure out if winning on Tutor/Professor level is impressive or just kinda lame, before I brave online play. 😅
@hystericempress "I am self-taught by old-school Europeans" is a truly extraordinary human thought.
re: Apparently I've got a bee in my bottle re: Social Media Platform infighting tonight
@Phorm No, I get it, I really do. <3
re: a RPG character interaction that never happened
@Doephin There has never in the entire history of social cut-downs been an effective nor even adequate countermeasure to a swiftly and righteously delivered fish across the cheek. I know of what I speak here. 🐯
