Went well. Neighbor sure seems like he couldn't be nicer, and he had Opinions about whether they should be indoor or outdoor cats which shows a very promising concern. He is definitely an experienced cat owner, was already ready with a litterbox and cat tree and whatnot, and was fine with arranging visits and such. I feel real good about this.

Still kinda feel like I betrayed Sugarfoot. At least she tagged along to observe the handoff, so she probably has some idea what happened. She's gonna be weird for a few days, I am sure.

Gearing up to take the kittens to our neighbor's place. Mixed feelings, as you can imagine, but god is this easier than shipping them halfway across the city to be with a total stranger.

@zx3 I mean, this is BY FAR the optimal result we're getting. Going off to a total stranger's house via an adoption charity would have been like sending them to another dimension. This is more like sending them to the local Y for Kitten Space Camp*. :)

*i.e., a space camp for kittens, not a camp for the exploration of kittenspace, although now that I think of it, it is probably also that

(Oh, by "leave for good" I mean tomorrow afternoon, assuming their new parent is going to be around! The hand-off is not tonight. I get to say a more extended goodbye tomorrow.)

The kids are demolishing their graduation dinner: one piece of grilled tuna and one of grilled salmon. (A whole filet of each would have been far too much, so Auntie Rez lovingly assisted them. 🐯❤️​)​ They have no clue they're about to leave home and Mama for good.

Well, "for good" except that their new home is 300 feet away and if they get lonely we can easily arrange for a visit... ^______^

He seems like an ideal candidate. He's got a really cozy-looking home, he's retired, he seems to be doing well for himself, he's got experience with cats, and I just got a really "sweet, good-humored guy" read off of him. And I think he's a NOLA native, which means he'll know what to do for them in a storm.

This is basically our equivalent of getting our kids into Harvard -- this is our #1 choice and could make this whole transition SO MUCH EASIER AND LESS PAINFUL.
