oh good, now i can watch all the shows with cats in them that i couldn't handle while i was terrified about the cats

(i have probably been seriously overdramatizing how much danger the cats were actually in, but this is my first real winter with small fuzzy creatures under my care and i think i went a little off the rails n.n )

Kitty Gras 2021 is concluded and seems to have been a success. The sun's come out, it's back above freezing, and everybody seems to be reasonably comfortable outside.

Kitty party went pretty well! Four hours or so left until we're back above freezing. Ceejay has been spotted alive and well, leaving his shelter for Other Errands. Only current hassle is that Artie and Peebles are fighting -- Peebles is the aggressor, which blows my mind. But it's still got her having second thoughts about being stuck in here with Artie and she's resumed meowling at the door intermittently. I'm gonna see if another good pettin' can settle her down.

@JulieSqveakaroo Yeah, Peebles already kinda got me inured to the idea that they're just *gonna* need to wander a bit. As long as the shelter is sufficient for him, I'm just relieved he knows it's there. ^___^

Also, between @sig 's assurance about Scandinavian kitties and a little more research, I'm somewhat reassured. It sounds like a _little_ subfreezing temp isn't a huge deal as long as they have protection from wet and wind, and the articles I was fretting over are more about what happens over *weeks* of winter cold, not one night...

@kistaro As a heavy cannabis user I support you 100%. It just isn't a good match for some people and the downsides are very real. The tolerance and habituation cycle is a real thing and can be a real problem.

@JulieSqveakaroo Yup! There's a little fabric flap on the front and a couple of dishes right next to the carrier, on our porch! ^_____^

@JulieSqveakaroo FWIW, it's "only" getting down to 27, so I might be completely making too much out of this to start with. n.n

@JulieSqveakaroo I'd love to run the whole thing by you again, though, since you're someone whose opinion I trust about both engineering AND kitties: medium-large plastic dog crate, holes covered in a folded blanket and waterproofed with two trash bags duct taped in place, latched to the porch rails so it's facing away from the wind, then a layer of shredded woodchip bedding, some swaddling blankets, and an insulted pod-shaped cat bed. Does that sound like it'd be enough?

OK. It took a LOT of persuading, petting, and letting her come and go like eight times -- and then a final moment of parental authority, where I just flat refused to open the door for her -- but Peebles has FINALLY been persuaded that anything that happens in the apartment, scary noises or not, is gonna be a better deal than she gets outside in the cold. Last I checked, she was napping comfortably next to Artie.

And CJ was nestled up pretty tight in the shelter, which I REALLY hope is warm enough.

@Phorm @anthracite It's fine. The urge to ship anything Mane Six related is virtually reflexive in us Equestria Syndrome survivors. :D <3
