love how every live action superhero movie makes the villain somebody who actually has a bunch of really salient points about social inequity for 2/3rds of the film then just does something inexplicably, self-sabotagingly unhinged that undermines all their goals in the finale. goodness it's almost like the entire point is to raise the specter of changing circumstances and doubt about social norms then make the person bringing it up generically crazy so centrists can feel better about ignoring it
@Soreth @zx3 @JulieSqveakaroo @anthracite I... um... have fond memories of Robot Queen Rugosa and the Mind-Control Doodad (even if the nitwit artist spelled it "DODAD" on the helmet itself *sigh*).
Aw, hell, you know... I'd probably do Nik the Fodunk too.
I've never had my preden7ine mass biffled. At least not by anyone who knew what they were doing, sorry @anthracite!
@JulieSqveakaroo @zx3 @Soreth @anthracite I can kinda understand it in cultural context since there was such a huge backlash going against card speculators and people who obsessed over keeping their cards pristine.
I recall there was one in On The Edge that required you to draw a mustache on the card's illo of Mona Lisa in order to activate it. :D
Above all, I just think it's hilarious how fast WOTC realized MTG ante had unintended consequences that DID NOT WORK OUT WELL AT ALL. :)
re: mh (-)
@Phorm You should do the exact opposite. Do NOT make us hold you down and inject you with tiger DNA* until you're loud and overconfident. (*Er, with a syringe. 😳)
🎵 I know, I know, it's really serious...
@Phorm Oh gods, sweetie, shutting that off was such a long and hard process for me. It's agonizing to break the reflex to give every damn person a referendum on your self-image, especially when it's about things you're afraid are true.
I wish I could give you better advice for how to snap out of it besides "spend 40+ years watching opinionated assholes shoot themselves in the foot, because being perfect is a lot harder than running your mouth off."
*HUG*
Sometimes SMBC hits so hard that you have to stare at a wall for a few minutes after.
@balinares Christ.
Yeah.
Yeah. *hug*
I'm really glad I toughed it out and unapologetically got an education in "what are you going to do with THAT?!?"
@Austin_Dern (although I've known some very nippy scratchy "Safety" Cats in my time, so maybe not all that safe... 🔫🐇)
@Austin_Dern This further reinforces my impression that bunnies are basically just Safety Cats. :D
mst3k, criticism, nostalgia
It just dawned on me that a good chunk of what's wrong with MST3K Seasons 11+ could be fixed with one simple change:
Replace Rebecca Hanson with Leslie Hall, the absolute goddess who sang "Tight Pants/Body Rolls."
GPC needs to be FABULOUS, gosh dang it.
I feel like Rebecca Hanson doesn't sing showtunes on a regular basis. If she's not going to babble about Richard Basehart dummies, GPC needs to at least be the kind of gal who'd break out into showtunes.
It's great that they've taken away her mental blocks. But now she needs to be played by someone passionate -- someone you could believe might, at any given moment and despite her massive intellect, accidentally eat her microphone.
Hanson's GPC is just too damn sane.
@001zlnv Haha, you're only the 2nd person to draw her with the Psycho Colors Peg gave her. :D
I honestly meant Unicode so I can use it on Twitter but this is AWESOME. :D
internet, old grudges, forbidden words
tbh i never quite forgave the internet for dragging the term "sapiosexual"
i can see how it would come off as pretentious but i was good friends with one of the people who had a pretty solid claim to coining the term
he was a nice guy --
by which i actually mean a decent person --
so screw all y'all</strongbad>
