3. worse, we have an uncanny ability to anthropomorphize anything we interact with whether or not it has intelligence in that way.
basically people are computers for working with other people and thus like how a hammer makes everything look like a nail, we make everything look like a person
AI discourse, New Yorker link
and it hits me, the comparison to how rephrasing is often a good sign that people understand something but is not a good sign that computers do gets to some points that I've made several times:
1. that these relatively simple statistical models "work" says much more about how _we_ think than if the models think
2. that we don't have a non-anthropocentric model of intelligence and thus are doomed to fail to recognize intelligences we can't interact with
a mileage marker; cw: vague and hollow tiger grump; eminently skippable
there is a thing that i have ardently stopped caring about just now and quite suddenly and finally
it is not a person
but it is not something that will make you happier if i tell you i really have entirely stopped giving a shit about it
there is nothing i can do about it but this
so i leave this marker in the dirt
...but it's one of those "tiger markers" if you know what i mean so you might want to step around it anyhow
this is just a faintly more satisfying solution than doing nothing at all
you know -- poopin on it
sorry folks, the rain should get it in a couple days
video game where you are a small cat in a highly stylized world with simple little cat quests
and where whenever you nap you start hunting nasties on the differently-stylized astral version of the same world
eventually you of course end up with abilities like walking through walls in the real world, staring down an astral nasty trying to manifest in matter, and tfing into a slinky sabretooth panther in the astral plane, you know, completely mundane housecat stuff
cw: queerphobia, grumbling
Beyond the obviously disgusting nonsense of queer elders constantly undergoing a systematic campaign of erasure, the hypocrisy of 'I can tell a 14 year old he needs to go kill foreigners to Be A Man but you can't tell him it's okay to love who he wants' makes me want to barf.
cw: queerphobia, grumbling
I am incredibly tired of the way conservatives demand access to young people to inject paranoia and xenophobia directly into their hearts, while simultaneously insisting a queer adult can't ask anyone more than 2 years younger than them for directions without it being sinister.

financial and material aid request (survival, amazon wishlist + paypal)
Hey. I'm Lex. You may know me from other assistance posts, such as this one: https://vulpine.club/@LexYeen/108342705477387037
I'm effectively living in the place now, but it's still overflowing with boxes of other people's things and I'm still unemployed, disabled, neurodivergent, and queer as fuck. For history, see the linked thread.
If you've got any cash to spare, literally anything helps. Survival has been turned into a subscription service by the greedy assholes of the world, and I cannot afford to pay it on my own. Paypal email still has my deadname attached to it, because I have had *so many more pressing issues* than fighting Paypal, and it's: glowhore [at] gmail [dot] com
Sorry for not using the link method, but I'm an oldhead and don't trust Paypal to not fuck me or you over with stealth-changes to their TOS.
If you'd rather not use Paypal, I do have a wishlist set up on Bastard Bezos's Bargain Basement as well. Previously I stated it was delivering things to the address of my most trusted friends. As of this post, this has been changed to the address I'm currently living. Items will disappear from the list as they're purchased. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/20F0QGQ0KNBOL?ref_=wl_share
This little sheep-dragon was a gift from @zebratron2084’s mom. She has been named Flossie, and now hangs from the overhead fan’s chain. She is enjoying her flying lessons.
Villain originally meant "peasant", clown originally meant "peasant", clown villains are double-peasants.
Obviously words change meaning over time, but I think it's very interesting that the way we talk about heroes being noble and evil people being villains is basically an artifact of a multi-century long class war.
@noiob Hi there, my friends over at driveinsaturday.org put in a federation request with awoo.space and they just wanted me to ping you and vouch for them!
They're good low-maintenance folks-- this is basically the Mastodon server of a homebrew Mystery Science Theater night that's been running for over 10 years. They just have a couple of us over here on awoo they'd like to stay in touch with.
Thanks, just passing the word along!
all i wanna do today regarding social media is purchase several thousand copies of ray mungo's "famous long ago" and tom wolfe's "electric kool-aid acid test" -- my two favorite documents of how the counterculture of the 60s failed good and hard -- and go around shoving them up Discourse People's noses

DAE kinda feel like both history and Whatever It Was We Postfurries Were Doing kinda crashed to a halt sometime around 2015 and we've all been living in some kind of phantom dimension with zero psychic energy since then?
