re: a sudden thought (spoilers for 2012 videogame FTL: Faster than Light)

@packbat This reminds me of the game "Tonight We Riot" (it's in the itch BLM bundle!) which has a great concept and fun gameplay (but horrible sound mixing).

In it, the player controls one person in a group of rioting protestors. More folks join along the way, but the cops are out in force so it's practically guaranteed some won't make it.

If/when the "lead" dies, another one of the group is randomly assigned and the player keeps on going. As long as one remains, the mission continues.

I figure FTL is like that, and I kinda love it as a change of pace from the usual "chosen one" single hero narrative most games have. And it's not that just anyone could fill the role, but there are plenty of folks who can step into it when needed.

re: therapy, forms, literal-mindedness

@packbat I've grumbled about this so many times to basically anyone who'll listen. Every week, I have to fill out three different questionnaires (QIDS SR-16, PHQ-9, GAD-7) spanning two double-sided pages:

  • early in the day when I haven't encountered most of the day's challenges;
  • but late enough to be properly up on my daily meds;
  • while navigating bizarrely worded questions and multiple-choice answers that don't really explain what I've been feeling;
  • as if I can remember a damn thing about the previous twenty-four hours let alone the previous day aside from "world going to hell but also ponies are nice".

This leads to chronic underreporting, even though the tests themselves add a little more to my anxiety. I'm sure these numbers are doing somebody some good, though....

The final deal points are being hammered out at this moment, we hear."

@fluffy@queer.party I do, in fact! Though it's registered to a name I no longer use. (Could have sworn I had that updated....)

What'd you have in mind, anyhow?

re: Health and its polar opposite, health insurance. (--)

@packbat It's not even new garbage. It's the exact same garbage Anthem pulled. And they pull it because it always fucking works.

Oh, but wait! There's hope! I can appeal with help from their internal review team, and then request help from an external review team hand-picked by Kaiser Permanente! coughs

I'm just glad they let me know all this before I went to a bunch of sessions they won't pay for! Oh, wait, they're backdating the withdrawal of authorization to April 14.

Same garbage, different names, all while I get worse care than I did before. Yet again, the greatest threat to my health is my health insurance provider.

Seattle renting and real estate (public post)

@Aradia And the economic power imbalance screws over all parties involved. The lack of any external safety net generates a fear of what happens when someone has to go looking for another place to live... and when something non-monetary goes wrong, folks are forced to continue cohabitating while everyone's sanity erodes, or forced to pull apart in a way nobody ever wanted or deserved.

I'm pissed that I've had relationships crumble because of money.

Health and its polar opposite, health insurance. (--)

Kaiser Permanente is refusing to "authorize" any more TMS treatments because they're working.

a list of games featuring characters that are POC in the itch.io bundle for racial justice

@frameacloud There's also "Tonight We Riot"... though the player character is just whoever happens to be the point person for a diverse, randomized group of folks, and if the point character dies, another random member of the group takes the job. Playing a single level often involves swapping between all sorts of folks!
