[1.Ch.] PSA
Someone who says to you, "there you go contextualizing everything" does not respect your perspective.
Someone who says to you, "you don't respect the way I show love" does not respect how you wish to be loved.
Someone who says to you, "you and that damned brain of yours" does not respect your intelligence or your independence.
Someone who says to you, "You can't blame me for lashing out because I was in pain" does not respect your safety.
You deserve to be treated like a person.
human rights, trans rights, us pol mention
I think I've finally figured out the, like, core cause of my distaste towards transphobia in general and the leaked memo in particular.
Gender issues is one of the last bastions of birthright caste systems in our society. There's probably a real word, but what I mean is, like, you're born into X, your role is X, you will die as X because you are X kinda thing.
Moving away from apprenticeships, feudalism, slavery, etc., has done wonders to fight that in many aspects of life, expanding (say it with me now) equality of opportunity to a greater and greater population. Expanding the human right of self-determination.
The memo, and transphobic pushes in general, are people crying for the old system, when people were born into certain roles and "knew their place".Well, pardon my English, but fuck that, and fuck them. Self-determination is a goddamn human right.
Hopefully we'll soon have a society where it's a universal right.
Proposal: Instead of talking about "finishing" video games, talk about being content or satisfied with them or about having concluded with playing them.
Help free yourself (and others) from the assumption that one can't be "done" with a game without 100% completion. Doing so takes on increasing importance as the mounting prevalence of DLC, MMOs, and achievement inflation further screws with our brains' hardwired need for closure.
Brexit, trans stuff, shitpost but also very real
Seen on birdsite :
A transgender friend has told me the UK should be required to live "as" an independent nation for two years before making the irreversible decision to transition out of the EU

Oh my gosh though, related to this, everyone should learn the NATO Phonetic ("radio") alphabet.
Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc. It doesn't take too much practice. It's *invaluable* when trying to communicate precise text, especially over the phone. Nobody wants an "m as in mancy" situation.
why organize tech workers?
> why organize? don't you, as a software dev, get paid enough?
1. no, i don't
2. without my knowledge or consent, things i've made have killed people, and my only options were to shrug or quit
3. work should not give you PTSD
4. worker rights and communal welfare is about more than pay. it's about power dynamics, accountability, representation, and taking the craft back from the profiteers who readily dispose of us

A couple of friends of mine have recently been experimenting with mentioning CALLIGRAPHY PENS a lot around their laptops with browsers open on Facebook.
They don't talk about this otherwise, in any form or medium. Sure enough, they're getting calligraphy related FB adverts now.
There's no way big ad-based companies aren't helping themselves to data from your mic. Your phone and laptop are listening devices. For most of us, this will never have serious ramifications, but still, act accordingly.
