tired: iron is harmful to fae because of unspecified magic intrinsic properties
wired: iron is harmful to fae because of its chemical properties
inspired: iron is harmful to fae specifically because it is physically the stuff of the human Industrial Revolution, a social restructuring event with broadly devastating effects on human adherence to the core values of the fae. for this reason, iron is suffused with a palpable curse that arises from its position as a symbol of human callousness.
My screaming kirks NES demo is complete. Here's the ROM and a full explanation. (Source code too!) #NES
"The Mother of All Demos"
1968: Douglas Engelbart explains the foundation of user interface to the world. How to make computers responsive and useful, mouse pointer, hypertext, etc.
In school I read about it often, but TIL I can just WATCH the thing!!!!!
I still can't get over how good a motto "anything worth doing is worth doing poorly" is when you're suffering from executive dysfunction or physical disabilities
Like, of course it's awesome to thoroughly clean your place once a week or biweekly but if the mere thought of it is causing you to break down, vacuuming for five minutes is so much more than doing nothing
It's the best piece of advice I got in what feels like forever
Musing on racist/sexist terms in vocabulary "I don't mean it *that* way"
Growing up, I was slipped a multiple racist terms during my language development. Except I didn't *know* they were racist.
"What a gyp!"
"Indian-giver"
The tendency for schools to discourage boys and girls playing together probably helped indoctrinate "guys" to mean everyone.
If someone tells you a term you use is sexist/racist/ableist... it almost certainly is. You were tricked as a child into thinking it wasn't.
Mastodon CSS Snippet: Embiggen Emojos
Because the Emojos 'round here can be hard to read sometimes and bumping them up 5px doesn't really hurt anything.
Bumping up the size of the emojos in the emojo browser certainly doesn't hurt either!
Both CSS snippets available here:

Angelina Jolie, Michelle Pfeiffer, +
Okay, it's celebrity gossip, but it's adorable. ^_^
"In a joint interview, Jolie, Pfeiffer and Maleficent co-star Elle Fanning were all asked about their teen crushes.
Jolie’s initial answer was Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire. But, when Fanning mentioned her crush on Grease’s Danny Zuko, Jolie’s eyes lit up and she leaned over to Pfeiffer, saying, “I loved you in Grease.”
“Was I your teen crush?” a flattered Pfeiffer asked.
“I definitely was into when you sang ‘Cool Rider,’ you were very hot,” Jolie said. “Scarface, I also had a big crush on you then,” she added like a queer woman who doesn’t know when to stop gushing about the woman she has a crush on."

The incorrect and negative beliefs we can get from years of negative feedback not knowing we have ADHD or how it affects our lives. While not everything is solely caused by ADHD, it can affect us and our comorbidities in many, many ways. Good news is, treating ADHD can do wonders

Screaming About Software, episode 827: Google Docs!
How is it that upon telling Google Docs I want to upload an image to be inserted into a document, it will happily open a file dialog that lets me select from a decent variety of image formats including SVG... but only after uploading will it state that the SVG format isn't accepted?
Ignoring the whole "why did it let me select an SVG in the first place" question for now, since that seems likely to be the result of calling by MIME-type and not filemask....
How is it still possible, in this fantastic year of 2019, that web-based application software (especially that of such a web-app juggernaut as Google) can't cope with an image that's a kilobyte-and-a-half of XML that's understood by every browser capable of running the app in the first place?
Okay, sure, I'll just make a PNG of it, but I won't like it.

Normalize quitting things. It could be school, work, relationships, hobbies, or pretty much anything.
Quitting is often thought of as inherently negative; nobody wants to be called a "quitter". But there are plenty of situations where not only is it reasonable, it's the *best* course of action.
You can drop out college or switch majors when you don't care about the thing you're studying. You can end a relationship when it becomes toxic. You can stop playing a game that you don't enjoy.
sudden idea: a social media website designed around the needs of mentally ill people, with multiple 'fave' options with discrete meanings, like 'I acknowledge what you're going through but don't have the energy to respond directly', or 'your feelings are valid but I suspect you forgot to eat and low blood sugar might be a factor'
