@bj We really need to play all the way through that game sometime. We got a copy years ago, but fell off of playing it and haven't picked it back up.

re: creepy and manipulative game design, ubisoft, far cry 6

@packbat ...ew.
-F

@sharkNserg also i love the idea of some big monstrous boss getting fed up with their inability to hit you and just stomping off angrily
-F

@sharkNserg Yeah!! that's what i was thinking, where do you spend your shots

because obviously you're not going to get through the game shooting only at the bosses, probably way less shots on the boss if you spend a few to get powerups earlier too
-F

You know what would be an interesting tas?

a minimal-shots run of something like gradius.

re: Writing Challange [11:2 Resolution] (SFW)

@Oneironott This is really good! words are hard right now or i'd have more to say about it
-F

@trysdyn Oh, from the SaGa games we've played, that makes complete sense.
-F

@trysdyn I am also curious who or what Kawazu refers to.
-F

@trysdyn The Trails of Cold Steel subseries does something similar, with explicit callouts, in a text style completely reserved for system messages like this, that taking this action "will cause the story to progress and some/all uncompleted sidequests and events will become permanently unavailable"
-F

@nautilee @pillowcat huh! with that recommendation i think we'll give it a try

very explicit spoilers re: spoilers for a video game, but saying which would reveal the spoilers

@kobi_lacroix basically it turns out your main character is an illegally created magical replica of the person he thinks he is, replacing the original several years prior to the game's start. everyone (including himself) thought he just had amnesia

a complicating factor is that the original isn't actually dead, he's still around and you have to fight him a couple times

the game is a whole lot better than what this simplified explanation suggests, there's some really good character development and stuff going on, along with some deep stuff about what it means to be alive and what one's place in life is. the tales games touch on pretty deep topics, it's what we like so much about them
-F

@hi_cial @heatherhorns aren't you still barred from giving blood in the US if you're gay?
-F

spoilers for a video game, but saying which would reveal the spoilers

@kobi_lacroix did you mean: tales of the abyss
-F

@Dex and then there's the way breath of the wild makes its overworld music really atmospheric by actually randomizing bits of it, after a random length of time it'll play a random one of several short bits of piano, with apparently some kind of logic involved to make things not repeat too frequently
-F

@Dex This has me wondering if you even *could* do a proper soundtrack fora game like banjo-kazooie

with how the music completely changes between a bunch of different arrangements depending on various elements--the soundtrack could never really represent what you actually hear in-game, since the music changes as you explore the level

re: Katt's crafty corner: cutting fluid

@starkatt Fun(?) fact: while working on our graduate project in school, we did not know this when we had to drill two holes in a ¼" (or maybe 5 mm? reasonably thick anyway) thick bar of copper.

It *did* ultimately work because the pure (ETP) copper we were using is really soft, but we very nearly slashed our hand open when the copper got stuck in the drill and pulled free of our improvised clamping system

also i think we ruined the drill bit

lewd

no nut november? but what about: *nine* nut november?
