re: pokemon coliseum and xd

@heatherhorns also this recurring villain whose entire personality is disco and who is constantly dancing, and specifically trains pokemon with idle animations that look like they're dancing

also the most ridiculous afro

his unique battle music is pretty nice too, especially in XD:

Coliseum: youtube.com/watch?v=9u-KVZbbiV
XD: youtube.com/watch?v=QzUq4238Cd

(i have no idea what they were thinking with the genre choice in coliseum, he's very clearly meant to be a big disco fan)

pokemon coliseum and xd

@heatherhorns no you're thinking of stadium! that had no double battles because they hadn't been invented yet.

Pokemon Coliseum was the follow-up to stadium, but it added a lot more including...actual story, it plays like a normal pokemon game but in 3d, a decade before X and Y did it. it takes place in the Orre region, the first pokemon region that was based on somewhere outside japan (Arizona, specifically)

the story is more serious and the worldbuilding more believable than any other pokemon game before or since, i think

every single battle in pokemon coliseum is a double battle, which is why it comes up

XD is a direct sequel to coliseum with a different protagonist and all the same mechanics and stuff, it was our first gamecube game

@pearshapes we actually learned earlier today that lush has a completely different meaning in UK english to its meaning in american english (the latter meaning is "a drunkard")

food, cravings

you ever just get a random craving for muffins???

i don't know why but i want muffins

i think our real weak point in writing is that we hit a point where just... there's no obvious way to segue to the next point

we might have lots of ideas for things to happen later but how do you *get* to later

worldsbuilding idea

an idea we had a long time ago but never did anything with was the idea of a group of different (maybe *very* different) universes with no connection between them other than the fact that everyone exists in all of them simultaneously, fully aware and in control of all their different bodies (in very different shapes and species!) across several dozen universes, some of which may even have different laws of physics

@dodec iwrc the melon that's ingrained in japanese culture is actually a breed of canteloupe, just one that looks very different from the ones we get in north america

also for some reason it's inordinately expensive and thus a symbol of wealth, making it desirable, hence the sheer amount of melon-flavored stuff they do in japan
-F

@dodec lychee is probably not going to show up in mexican soda obviously, missed that you were talking about that specifically, but i wouldn't be surprised if prickly pear did

i'd love to try a proper canteloupe-flavored soda too, or honeydew, one of those really tasty melons with more flavor to them than watermelon
-F

@dodec we had an apple soda once called like... manzanita sol, I think? Or sol manzanita? which mostly tasted like a mix of red delicious (the worst kind of apple) and cardboard (not an apple)

we'd love to try a good apple soda though, that could be good. we don't drink, so we actually have never been exposed to what exactly a sangria is!

oh we've had a good lychee soda before too, that is a flavor that just works wonders in drinks. prickly pear would probably be great too!
