terrible idea for a programming language: language that deliberately breaks literally every programming norm ever
+ is the logical negation operator, all math has to be entered in polish notation (non-reverse), an opening parenthesis is a syntax error but closing ones are required, variables are indexed by the length of their name rather than the actual name so every one-letter name refers to the same variable and you need to use a two-letter name for the next one and so on
Specifically, since I feel like talking about it, the book in question is the seventh volume of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, a manga by Hayao Miyazaki (which was later turned into an animated movie by him after he founded Studio Ghibli)
we watched the movie a few months ago and really liked it. it's the first time we've ever watched a movie and *then* decided to get the books it's based on actually
(and yes, this is a legally purchased book that's only a *former* library book, if you were worried. I just want it to look nice. Libraries have enough money trouble without people stealing from them, don't steal from libraries)
anyone have any tips for removing library stickers from books? it's a paperback book with a glossy cover if that affects anything, and i'm only looking to remove the stickers on the outside; there's an RFID anti-theft sticker on the inner cover covering a bit of the artwork but I don't think we could remove that without damaging the book
(note: we are not into beat-em-ups so it's possible this is actually a really good one for all we know. we just didn't enjoy playing it, despite thinking the concept is really interesting
the concept is also a little too over-the-top for us to enjoy actually playing, even if it is intentionally leaning into the cheesiness of it, but that's just preference and it's still a silly concept that we find amusing)
I guess the principle is that instead of the camera doing a dramatic zoom when you do a special attack, you control the camera and can only do those special attacks while doing a dramatic zoom. The game doesn't go in slow-motion to make a punch look more impactful, you set it into slow-motion to actually make your punches more impactful
it's ridiculous
oh and it's also an isekai so it has that level of over-the-top too
if you've never heard of the viewtiful joe series, it's worth a look
it's not *good* by any means, pretty decidedly mediocre, but the concept is certainly unique.
it's an over-the-top beat-em-up where you play as a superhero with powers based around low-budget cinematography visual effects--for instance, you can trigger a dramatic slowdown at any time, and while in the slowdown state your punches do more damage. you also have special moves that you can only do while the camera is zoomed in
I wonder, what would be a good material for electrical data cables that aren't required to transfer any significant amount of power, if copper was too expensive to use?
aluminum would be the obvious choice, I suppose, but if the cable doesn't have to have significant current it may be possible to go cheaper
USB cables that use copper or aluminum for the power lines and something like maybe even steel for the data lines? i wonder hwo that'd work
i guess all optical fiber is either that or a long cylinder of flexible glass but this is like. Almost rubbery plastic, you're not going to break it from bending it too sharply like high-performance optical fiber
it doesn't even use a laser diode for a transmitter, it's just a plain old LED that can't even turn on and off all that fast compared to modern optical communications systems
