oh we'd also need a C battery because this apparently requires one, but that's not as difficult, can make one of those easily out of six AAAs

also like, it's a regenerative receiver. they're incredibly fiddly and you have to basically constantly watch the gain knob to prevent them from oscillating
-F
we don't know if it still works. we could probably find replacement tubes; i doubt they're anything particularly special--the bigger problem would be getting A and B batteries
-F
apparently crosley (you know the company that makes the really bad quality record players but also the only one still making record players) isn't a new company
we found a crosley branded *regenerative receiver* with a manufacture date of *1920*
(regenerative receivers are really low quality radios but the first ones made that had actual amplification, they've been obsolete for basically a century)
it's not all bad though! the 370A is a classic machine, built in that time period when things came with actual service manuals and were ultra-reliable. the thing works just as well today as it did 35 years ago, more than you can say for modern devices
real easy to use too. no complicated menus or anything, everything's done by buttons on the front panel

well, yesterday was a huge mess but
now that things are a bit calmer: we made Progress at work yesterday! got the tek 370A communicating with labview and got it set up to record some measurements
this was a Major Pain because making a device from the 80s communicate with software from 2020 is not easy
made worse by the fact that the 370A predates SCPI so instead of using the standard commands it has its own idiosyncratic ones
at least it does use gpib

oh @chr @decimal@the.monsterpit.net we were just reminded (by fire demon, monsterpit's admin) that monsterpit has some Fancy Privacy Features that can affect federation and visibility from other instances, I'm not sure what's enabled by default

i fully expect maybe one person on here to know what all of these are, and maybe three to know what any of them are
