What makes The Dispossessed a great and enduring work is its honesty about the things that can go wrong in a society constituted under anarchist ideals, including the creeping nature of enforced mediocrity to assert itself even in a society without sanctioned state violence. A revolution is never complete and you can't rest on calling yourself a leftist or anarchist; revolution must forever be renewed in one's self, in one's community and society.
@OpalSystem nods
@OpalSystem this is really cool! Did the kitsune give a name?
"leftists aren’t more likely than centrists or conservatives to be shitty on an interpersonal level. But it’s always worth examining the ways people justify and excuse their own bad behavior, especially when that behavior rises to the level of abuse — and the growing popularity of previously fringe left concepts like “mutual aid,”.[sic] because abusers can twist these ideas to maintain a high moral self-concept even though they’re causing their partners harm."
DARVO dynamics are popular round here
"Because certain insults or insinuations are radioactive in leftist communities — You’re not a real leftist, you’re a secret bigot, you’re being abusive — they can be used as argumentative atom bombs by shitty partners. People familiar with abusive dynamics will recognize this as a form of DARVO, but for partners on the receiving end, it can be bewildering and deeply hurtful"
but ppl are using the language of oppressed and logic of resistance to the point where they try to avoid personal responsibility in all of these spaces.
i wrote about that in the summer time in a subscription post, where the weaponization of identity is used to avoid accountability. Aug I think. that thread and article from Madeline is making me think about that again.

Tales of Zestiria is a better game than people give it credit for, I know I've said it before, but the reason many people panned the story is because a lot of the themes go over people's heads.
It also subverts the culture of vengeance as a substitute for justice, and having to kill people, even those who themselves ruined lives and killed thousands, is properly presented as a heavy subject. The burden of such a decision is framed as one that couple potentially permanently stain a soul.
@OpalSystem Nice! @DemonISM uses those as xeyr primary pronouns. :3
Another tactic is to do some small bit of freelance work if you can. They love that entrepreneur rhetoric shit so you can ham that up and might even move you into the "soft touch" category.
If your friends have a business or coop, maybe see if you can help them out and get a few hours in on a freelance basis.
Just bear in mind you will have to register fill out a tax return each year with strict fines if you file it late.
And it's not a lie at all. It is genuinely a good way to try and find work. Tell them that you're "hoping to get more hours soon" because I'm sure you are. Not a lie.
They just like to particularly punish people who they see as "hopeless cases".
Another tactic is to record any conversation that you have with them on calls or in person. You may want to go through it later to pick up on stuff. Who knows you may want to whistleblow to the press or social media if they're verbally horrible to you. They don't respect your privacy so why respect there's.
@Siph You look good.
All this wahala started bc we talked abt a white passing user's deflection of taking responsibility for being anti black.. And then a load of ppl not related made threads about feeling like we were delegitimizing them. As if that's not the most white tears thing you can do. And a yr later here we are.
