the problem with compromise for dignity is that it's not a compromise, it's a betrayal even to yourself.
You yourself may not be one of the weird ones that "make us look bad" or whatever. Maybe you're proud of that. But you must realize that subscribing to the idea that you ought to adhere to some degree of "normal" to be respectable means you're making the agreement that you yourself should not be allowed that right of outlandishness.

this may seem almost insultingly reductive of a complicated issue, but really it's the definition, i would argue.
i think that's actually a really big deal, because it clearly marks a turning point. once history is forgotten or distorted to the point that your sense of consequence is skewed, it destroys any context you can have for empathy. hi terfs!
or really, if you see overpopulation as a threat, you're far removed from any real sense of threat in your life

if your political ideology is something you don't feel you can bring yourself to say out loud in public, there are two possibilities here:
A: you're at risk on an existential level and need to be sure you can communicate without persecution
B: you're a fascist

If the person who wronged you clearly shows remorse, and did what they can to undo and fix the damage, but you won't even recognize the attempt, what exactly is your endgame here?
It's fine if you say that you're not ready or willing to forgive, but to instill a sense of hopelessness in the person via stonewalling really just sets off red flags.
