that's the brilliant bit! he doesn't really exist! all we know is, some dude who was calling himself "Dan Cooper" hijacked a plane flying between Portland and Seattle on 24 November 1971 demanding an enormous ransom. the cops put it together for him and "Cooper" got the hijacked plane to land at SeaTac so he could grab his ransom money, and then he demanded the plane take off again. then at some point he just bailed out, with a parachute, and was never seen again. a tiny amount of the money was recovered somewhere

his name got reported as "D. B. Cooper" by some sloppy journalist and that's this guy's only name now. nobody's ever found out who he "really" was. maybe he just phased into existence and back out again

but I can't think of a better reason to celebrate 24 November. hats off to you, D. B. Cooper, whoever or whatever you were
