so I was overly enthusiastic and bought a batch of beets, stew beef, red onions, and I took down chicken thighs to thaw, for beet salad/beef with tofu/pickled onions/tarragon chicken. You can see where this is going?

This evening I put on Seventeen Seconds, put up the chicken to marinate, and I'm in the process of making borscht, which will also use up this half a cabbage that I've had for a while. The Cure isn't especially appropriate borscht-making-music, so I've now listened to Janet Jackson's "Nasty" because she starts by saying give me a beet.

Possibly not a surprise, but the coworker who has a knack for upsetting me managed to make me furious. I really hope I can find something else soon, problem is finding time and energy to look.

Listening to Goldsmith’s music for The Shadow, which sounds a little like “Michael Corleone is Batman and encounters V’Ger.” Whatever movie this is actually the soundtrack for was WAY better than The Shadow.

Huh. Apparently the lyric from The Vapors' "Turning Japanese" is actually "everyone avoids me like a psyched lone ranger," instead of how I parsed it, "everyone avoids me like a Cyclone Ranger." Which is part of why I thought it was a song about tokusatsu shows.

I've been to Idaho exactly once, decades ago when I drove to the west coast to live here. And it set off all my "the Klan's active here" feelings.

Let's just say that my opinion of that fine, fine state hasn't improved any.

I just got the news about Idaho, and I haven't been so upset since I got the news about Missouri, which is definitely one of the biggest upsets since getting the news about Texas. Which is pretty impressive for there being a war on *literally where my family's from*.

Look, why does anyone *care* about Black people in a Middle Earth thing? Yeah, I know racism, but for all the description JRRT provides, *the entire Fellowship and all the Istari and hobbits could be Black*, why not? Like literally the only people he mentions with ethnic traits are the Saxons-with-serial-numbers-filed-off Rohirrim and the quasi Inuit who show up in Silmarillion. You'd have an easier time arguing there aren't coniferous forests in Middle Earth.

A police officer anywhere, regardless of ethnicity, gender or nationality, is a human rights violation waiting to happen if it’s not currently in progress. These things must be regarded as a fundamental threat to safety.

I spent a lot of childhood stuck, with anger I couldn’t safely express, and being constantly told I was shitty was *right there*. Consequently when I’m feeling stuck and pissed off there’s this urge to reach for the self hate - now it’s familiar as well as distracting.

Need a nap. Combination of weather, overwork, and discovering two days worth of work are now flushed just really ate wakefulness.
