the tongva language is part of the uto-aztecan language family, which also includes shoshoni, comanche, hopi, and nahuatl. unfortunately, the last native speakers died out some time in the beginning of the last century, although the tongva are attempting to revive their language. the language also lives on in place names around southern california, such as topanga, tujunga (yes, like in zootopia), azusa, cahuenga pass, and rancho cucamonga.
