@anthracite Yeah, I had the realization that as he continues to write in a setting the probability of the appearance of something statutory with a minor approaches 1.... I haven't read a book by him since. He even did it in Xanth. Never again.
I do still think of some of his writing quirks as lessons in how to do or not do things, though.

@anthracite Hah! Yeah, I had blanket permission to check out whatever too, I honestly don't remember the weirdest thing I got from the library at a probably-too-young age...
Probably something by Piers Anthony, honestly. Ah, my mis-spent youth.

@anthracite I read "Tunnel in the Sky" at the library in the early 90s, and "Red Planet" my parents owned. When I was old enough, they let me read "Stranger in a Strange Land." Then in my teens I found "Number of the Beast". And I think that's still everything of his that I've read, minus a short story or two. One or two things from every period of his writing, apparently, and more or less in order.

There's a lot of text here and I'm at work currently so apologies for not transcribing both images.
@Phorm @doephinAD Aye, there's the rub!
@Phorm @doephinAD "Rub canister and run away", in the spirit of "Light fuse and get away"
cw that monster, bad wakeups
I woke up suddenly realizing that for probably five or six years running, before I found out, I was sending a Christmas present off to That Monster and then never receiving anything back except statements of "oh, I got something for you but shipping is delayed, I'll send it off when it gets here."
But I'd forget about it by like mid-January, and then he'd just repeat it again the next year.
So at least the rest of the day can only get better, after that little cry.
@zebratron2084 Awww, thank you! I'm honored. :D
Happy Crimbus! Cthulhu bless us, every one!
@Phorm And a very Merry Punt Speedchunk to you as well!
@hystericempress I love that game so much and for so many reasons
"I found a prophet on the landing this morning."
"Are you sure?"
"Pretty sure. It scuttled under the baseboard as soon as it saw me."
"What did it look like?"
"Wild-eyed and wild-haired, jittery movements. Like it had seen too much and could no longer find solace in the world as it is."
"Uff. We'll have to get someone to come around and spray."
@anthracite @zebratron2084 I almost want to make a crack here about "they're the true meaning of Christmas"
