Since I've been quiet for ages, here's another little thing (also for my game The Collage Atlas) #inktober https://mastodon.social/media/JfpAbt2kDCTiZFw0zgA
know me in 5: novels
1. Watership Down
2. Book of the New Sun (yes I know it's actually five books, but it's all one story, stfu Neil Gaiman said it all counts as one novel)
3. What's Bred in the Bone by Robertson Davies (about art, forgery, self-discovery, and the narrative structure of a life)
4. Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett (for the dragon parts obviously)
5. Call of the Wild/White Fang (which I originally read as a two-part book so it's one novel dammit)

US Politics, Video Essays
OMG Innuendo Studios is doing a series on the Alt-Right called the "Alt-Right Playbook" and it's already FANTASTIC.
I cannot recommend this channel highly enough. Everything is so well written and presented; with complex concepts spelled out masterfully. I always learn so much from every video posted to this channel.

music earworm, Catholic saints
@bleak basically that the things people have done to each other over stuff like religion could be--imaginatively horrible. I also learned about a religion called "Manichaeism," which Wikipedia says "at its height was one of the most widespread religions in the world" and which I had never heard of before.
An excellent explanation of privilege. http://time.com/4948371/white-privilege-metaphor/
music earworm, Catholic saints
I'm finally having some success dealing with the "Saint Elmo's Fire" earworm by making the lyrics about "Saint Vitus Dance" instead, which prompted me to go down the Wikipedia research hole about "Where Do Catholic Saints Come From," and yeeesh, humans are seriously fucked up. o______o
@djsundog one of Nuremberg's longest-lasting independent movie theaters screened Blues Brothers as its 8pm showing on its main screen for *eleven years consecutively*
@Kistaro I KNOW RIGHT.
California fires
So, uh. The two fires closest to where I live have consumed nearly 9,500 acres of land together.
If you can spare any cash and want to help, I urge you to donate to charities in the affected areas: Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino counties. I personally can vouch for the Redwood Credit Union Community Fund, as it's run by the credit union I've been a member of since I was a teenager and they have never once tried skeezy banker bullshit on me. https://rcu-community-fund.squarespace.com/donate/
North Bay fires
I repeat, if you are in the Bay Area at all, PLEASE STAY INSIDE as you are able. "Unhealthy" air quality almost everywhere now. https://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.local_city&zipcode=94115&submit=Go

uhhh coming out day or something
i came out in 2013 but the only coming out you do once is to yourself. beyond that, you come out all the time, because "coming out" is about defying the defaults that cis/hets presume. if not for cissupremacy, if not for the kyriarchy, no one would ever need to come out.
Birdsite link, ongoing natural disaster
So, hey. Lots of folks are way worse off than I am thanks to the wine country fires. If you've got any cash to spare, my credit union's started a fund.
