@zebratron2084 and now I'm having odd--nostalgia? is that what this is?--about when I first read that story, the book and circumstances, and how much better I liked "Come, Lady Death" and "Lila the Werewolf." *shrug* but then, I'm an odd beast. :]

@zebratron2084 I don't remember identifying much with any of the characters (not uncommon; it's *very* rare for me to identify with a character in any media other than superficially), though I remember I thought the skull was *awesome*. the most poignant bit of the story to me was in the circus, when the manticore (?) gets out, and the unicorn tells Shmendrick not to run. "Never run from anything immortal. It attracts their attention."

@zebratron2084 @Angle@witches.town @literorrery given that the problem as stated in the text is anxiety, and that it's explicitly calling out the militancy tactics currently in use as not particularly helpful in these times, I think "more militancy" is kind of what it's *against*. ultimately, the goal is to enable people to resist; but first they have to see that they *can* thrive without buying into the capitalist system and without constant crippling anxiety. I think that's possible, and a good goal.
between sick and internet hijinks, I'm going to be less present than usual for the next couple of days, I suspect. I'm having Thoughts, but I'm not sure if they're ready to be expressed here or what. in any case, I'll be around; as always, DM or @ing me will get my attention; <3, dream well, and be kind to each other.

deeply rethinking this "go to store today" idea in favor of "have Safeway deliver some stuff later on and stay inside all day" instead. it wouldn't kill me if I *had to*, but I don't think it's that urgent, and I'm increasingly convinced the unpleasantness will far outweigh the benefits. :|

I haven't seen "Lefty," the crow whose left foot won't unclench, in a while. I don't think zie was a local, though; zie may have just been hanging around here on a winter forage-safari.
I'm more sad, and concerned, that I haven't seen or heard any coyotes at all this winter. this should be great coyote territory. it may be that there's some around, but they're more reclusive and I just don't see them... but I miss them.
just fed the last of the peanuts to the crows, after hearing Junior's distinctive "caw caw *kek*" outside. I put out a dozen or so shelled peanuts--I buy them with the shells, but the nuts that break open mean that the debris on the bottom is mostly husks and shelled nuts--and the crows happily gobbled them up. "Mom" (I *think* she's female) was nomming them industriously while Junior watched and occasionally tried gaping at her in hopes of a handout, then Jr snacked off the suet feeder a bit.
