oh and also I had a dream where a POC (I'm not sure of their gender, but they were very attractive, dark-skinned, with long thick cornrows and a KILLER dark red coat/hat combo) had invented... something, like the scenario was vaguely post-apocalypse and the invention made things work without batteries or other power? they looked like little toy cars filled with little wheels, and you could chain them together to make a "power cord."

the downer was a Cooper's hawk whose condition was deteriorating and had to be put down. I glanced in while I was cleaning the bird ward and he looked angry and alert, but he seemed to have a fracture or break in his spine somewhere, and was having increasing trouble breathing. :(

also they got a baby skunk, which is rare; its prognosis is very mixed, and they do better with siblings, but we don't have any for this one.

part of the reason I'm not immediately documenting my volunteering today is that it was pretty dull, really. the only thing of note that happened was kind of a downer. oh, except maybe for the story of the great horned owl that was brought in "because it was eating a snake"???? it's also got some damaged tailfeathers and is having difficulty flying, but seems otherwise completely healthy.

whoop new air conditioner tripped a fuse. now slowly turning things back on to make sure what we can run simultaneously. but THERE IS COOLER AIR IN HERE OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOM *baaaaaaasks*

shameful birding admission: I *cannot* tell sparrows apart. they are all similarly-sized, similarly-colored little brownish birds. there's at least three common varieties in this area and damn if I can tell which one a given bird is. part of it is knowing their songs/calls, and most of the time I don't even hear them make noise.

have returned from last heatpocalypse survival prep run. I may not leave the apartment again until Friday. or later. :| have I mentioned that I really hate hot weather? recently? a few times?

what is with the fireworks??? *hunkers down and hisses at loud erratic banging/popping noises*

store went, now have tinfoil up on the windows--against our renter's agreement but this is a god damn emergency situation, I'll take it down when the sun stops actively trying to kill me. *grump*

holy shit it's supposed to get into the NINETIES on Thursday. going to Costco for emergency supplies today, to FM for emergency supplies tomorrow, and getting an emergency air conditioner delivered on Wed.

it wasn't too bad, it seemed pretty relaxed, and seemed to be some kind of transcription job, which have been pretty good to me. still... noooooo
