@adeptomega @Ulfra_Wolfe@witches.town Seconded. It has been lovely to see more of you.
@Lioness Y'know, at first I was about to say "I probably am beyond that part" but then I remembered how I made a total mess of the whole getting-into-ritual-circle thing the other night by forgetting I had to actually SAY "hey everyone walk between these two markers"
@starkatt It's actually tuned to a precise 1 day/year precession, because multi-year cycles can be nice too. (extremely Neptunian voice) Y'don't want to get TOO predictable, y'knowdude? ;)
@starkatt Or you cheat using an artificial moon made of gravity-magic: http://wiki.postfurry.net/wiki/Neptunian_Calendar ;)
Per @Lioness, I have been thinking that some of this is indeed "How do I run group events" stuff, yeah, that covers like half of my points there, but there's some pretty particular pagan concerns in there too.
Still, if anyone has any resources they might suggest, even for 'how do I do group events' more broadly, I'd be interested.
And if anyone has any personal experience with this... Maybe we should all put our heads together?
(Feel free to boost. c.c)
What I wish I knew more about doesn't really have anything to do with specifics of belief or cosmology, it's more like:
- How do I do logistics/prep without losing my mind
- How do I know how much to involve other folks in ritual actions
- How do I address potential attendee interpersonal concerns
- How do I allow for varying levels of participation in general, when I'm not sure how much some folks want to involve themselves in e.g. ecstatic practice?
I get the sense that somewhere in the wilds of the internet, there must be a place to discuss "How do I do a good job at running eclectic pagan rituals" and I wish I knew where to find it.
Then I think a bit more about the reasons I never joined up with any pagan groups myself before, and think maybe I'm better off finding my own path with this.
Still, it seems like there are some basic principles that would be good to know, that I worry I'm not getting. Anyone have any thoughts?
@emanate Part of the problem I'm realizing is that a lot of the standard campfire construction techniques (teepee, lean-to) rely on having friction with the ground to prop stuff up on. Not so effective with a flat metal base.
Basically I'm thinking more and more about just doing the earth firepit thing ASAP.
@emanate Having looked up some stuff, I kinda didn't :) Also it turns out that ma lot of the technique I did dimly remember don't work as well in a metal fire enclosure.
Mango Thoughts
@KawaSeadrake Not blackberries? ;)
Come to think of it, there's quite a few correspondences between paganism and scouting. The pyromania, the social ritual...
And some issues both need to work on, like authoritarian bullshit and Native cultural appropriation. ;)
So, two fires in two days. And today's went much better than yesteday's (Thanks @emanate for helping rescue the one last night!).
I think I'm finally working out what makes them burn well.
Catching up on what I didn't learn in scouting, I guess. ;)
