I keep thinking I should get an AD account, but with all the porn I write, it feels redundant. My writing blog is my AD account.

Confusing frustrations (Alt-right and online debate crap)

@Phorm Your feelings are real. You are not a bad genie for feeling them. I can share my thoughts if you'd find them helpful, but I'd rather focus on making sure you feel like you're being respected and understood. What right bow would help you feel safer?

@nika At the end of the day, what I want is a browser that puts the tabs in a column on the left-hand side and the ability to background some arbitrary set of tabs so they're open but not currently visible, so I can leave projects in suspended states while I do other things.

@nika Some interaction between "Sync Tab Groups" and "Tree-Style Tabs" caused tab group containers to show up _as_ tabs. Some interaction between "Tree-Style Tabs" and "Simple Tab Groups" killed every window not in the foreground when I removed Simple Tab Groups. I don't think "Container Tabs" was involved, but everybody's touting tab containers as the hot new thing and so far all it's done for me is break stuff.

... for some reason, "old" keeps getting turned into "own" when I go to type it. On my laptop, not my phone. Brain, what are you telling me?

@kelseyhusky At this point, I might as well figure out a bookmarking system and just stop trying to keep all the things I'm currently working on in the current browser context.

@kelseyhusky I'm not quite at that point yet -- the improved performance is nice -- but I'm _really_ hurting for my own tab group functionality, and so far nobody wants to (or can) build one in a way that doesn't close and unload all the tabs that aren't currently visible, which defeats the purpose I had for having tab groups.

It's no longer called "Firefox Quantum." It's now only known by its initials: "FQ."

Say it out loud a few times, until it feels natural.

I need breakfast. And a salt extraction. And a nap.

... and now Firefox Quantum's plugin container model has caused two plugins to interact with each other such that deleting a plugin closed all but five of my own browser tabs.

I really hate the bookmark model, but I suppose I better learn it.

intolerance, rant

@Ronja@witches.town @Terrana@tootplanet.space There is a very big difference between venting in a private space in which everyone present understands the exaggerated context of the communication and nobody present is a member of the target group, and the same venting in a public space in which passers-who have no ability to tell the venting apart from other people's earnest hatred.

Context matters. Intent matters. Impact matters. Non-negative intent isn't enough to overcome negative impact.

Exhaustion

I had one turkey prepped that had to be cooked, so I made it to take with me to game last night, but I started microsleeping in the Observatory while I was waiting for it to finish cooking. I passed out last night at 21h, give or take.

I woke up at 04h30 this morning after a dream about one of my implants breaking. So that's fun. And now my body says "time to be up! Work tomorrow!" but my gears are still stuffed with cotton.

At least my feet no longer hurt.

Exhaustion

Bandaza was amazing. It was also exhausting. Fifty-seven people came to share in the joy and celebration. We collected $65 for Northwest Harvest. I was on my feet for eleven hours. I have at least one essay to write and some amazing ideas to ponder. On the flipside, I got very little sleep Saturday night; the ibuprofin didn't help my feet and the weed did but also kept me up until 5am. I got a brief snooze, but it wasn't enough.

VVVVVV--

So, uh...

Masto's webui has that "filter by regex" option. And it takes regexen, as it should.

A single letter -- v, specifically -- is a valid regex. I wonder how long that'd been there. Got a lot more toots to read now.

UX suggestion: have a visible "(Filtered)" in the header of any column with an active filter so people can at least know a filter is active.

Reminder: Whenever you go to apologize but then realize it isn’t something you should apologize for and you wonder what to say instead: SAY THANK YOU. Your apologetic instinct is to lower yourself to raise up someone else, and the raising is great but the lowering is unnecessary: Just give them the blessing. Say “thank you for waiting” instead of “sorry I’m late”. It works.
