We grew up with fewer positive interactions with humans, and more time to focus on everything else in the world.
We have to either make our peace with the rejection of family and tradition, or learn to radically reinterpret them.
We have to fight against consensus reality just to express our identities and live our lives.
Queer people are magic.
It's not that we're born with some secret chosen-one destiny.
It's just that we get plenty of practice at it.
I am possessed of the terrible urge to babble incessantly about magic. I wish I knew any art whatsoever so I could produce my own version of that guide that made the rounds. Of course, I am also possessed of the terrible urge to apologize profusely for everything I know I'm doing wrong, as well as the terrible urge to insist that everything I'm doing wrong is probably a coping strategy for everything I tried to do right that worked better for me this way.
Meditation
Our emotions are real. They exist within us. They are part of our lives, and part of our minds. To deny our emotions is to deny a part of ourselves, our Selves, that we need to be whole.
There is a difference, however, in feeling our emotions, and in being them. We can feel anger without being angry. We can feel fear without being afraid. Our emotions are real, but their reality need not be any more a demand for attention than someone shouting.
Hey it's time again for one of those intermittent "Indi posts a paganism/spiritwork thing!"
http://sarahannelawless.com/2017/04/23/everthing-you-need-to-know-about-animism/
"Everything You Need to Know About Animism", and the title is surprisingly apt; it's 8000 words long, very in-depth, and raises a ton of points I agree with, and only a few I take minor issue with.
If you want to know where I'm coming from with all this 'animist' stuff, that's a good place to start!

I've had arsenic's own time making that post. I struggle like crazy with this crap. If you can help, your help is welcome. if you can't, thank you at least for being here in the world with us. This is a land of wonders, and that we can share it is most wondrous of all.
Sorry not sorry

Also, while I'm thinking of doing good in the world, please remember that tomorrow is #FreeComicBookDay, and your local gaming and comics shop needs love. My local store is Phoenix Comics -- http://phoenixseattle.com/ -- and they do an amazing job of supporting local creators and queer artists. If you have a local shop, please consider taking time out of your Saturday to visit and show your support for creators across a broad spectrum of fields. If you're local, maybe I'll see you at Phoenix. :)
Please boost, friends: https://www.gofundme.com/cowan-family-fund
My friend Jakebe is trying to take care of his extended family after an unexpected medical crisis left four kids without a mom. I know the fund's been met, but every little bit helps, and these kids have had a rough life. If you can spare anything to help them, even a dollar makes a difference.
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to say "I like it," "I don't like it," "I used to like it," "I might one day like it," or "I don't know if I like it."
You are allowed to dig up the garden and plant it again.
You are allowed to wonder what it would be like, in new skin, with new thoughts. A new you. A new here.
You are allowed to be different. You are allowed to stay the same.
You are allowed to be comfortable. You are allowed to seek change.
You are allowed to be you.
Liminal space
In response to my stresses, I went down tonight. Deep. I dragged myself into the depths and ended up with a pretty intense vision of Diamond, @ElectricKeet's and my middle child (and a plush fox) as an early twenty-somethingish non-binary club kid in a skirt and a sleeveless hoodie getting lessons in spiritwork and... stuff... from a character from another setting (Yeah, it was Neal).
I went to justify it to Keet. She said she figured that's how things were going. I cried.
