I used to be a big i3 guy but when I had a linux work laptop I just used vanilla gnome with a handful of small addons
@MindmeshLink there's a tiling addon for gnome that is interesting, I couldn't get into it but it does some very cool things https://github.com/material-shell/material-shell

@chrisisgr8 I haven't done it before but I know ppl who have used a raspberry pi as a wifi router (relaying horrible student accomodation wifi) and I bet the guides for that (e.g. https://raspberrypihq.com/how-to-turn-a-raspberry-pi-into-a-wifi-router/) would mostly work on 'buntu
