@codl maybe they are connected via multipoint bluetooth, as in your tv has a bluetooth headset but doesn't actually know what to do with that
now it's charging fine off of the charger/cable combo I was using all along
I decided to put the wattage in the menubar, courtesy of CoconutBattery, so I can at least keep an eye on it, since macOS doesn't seem to wanna warn me when it's too low
