re: Autistic Spectrum Coordination Stuff
@variance ADHD is an Autism Spectrum Disorder, yeah, along with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalcula, Autism/Aspergers, probably a few others I've forgotten
It's.. Kinda a genetic pool with a shared grab-bag of what you get in terms of symptoms? I'm not wording wonderfully rn, sorry- There's a lot of overlapping space and comorbidity between the defined conditions within the spectrum, and people having multiple diagnosise within the set is quite common.
(For instance, we've had diagnosis of Dyspraxia, Autism and ADHD all come back positive)
re: MtG Nerdery
@daylight me & my sib mostly play together on OCTGN, so I was looking through our decks and having to step over all the "yeah, but irl that would be a mortgage" cards. xP
re: MtG Nerdery
@daylight ahh, understood
re: MtG Nerdery
@daylight fwiw I tried to stick to ones that are <$1 (Deadeye Navigator is like, $2-3 iirc), so unless I goofed none of them ought to be ohgod-expensive
re: MtG Nerdery
@daylight whoops, my bad ^^;
MtG Nerdery
@daylight with the "I have v. little idea of the cardpool of the past 3 years or so" caveat;
- I'd stick Cultivate and/or its copies (Kodama's Reach, probably others I've forgotten) in there somewhere. Reasoning that Green has such fierce landramp that if you've got a lot of green, it makes sense + enables everything else you wanna do
- I'd replace Appetite for the Unnatural with Gleeful Sabotage. 2 mana vs 3 mana is a big jump for 2 life, and GS has added utility. Naturalize is a cheaper $ alternative (GS is about $2.~)
- You've got some Blue stuff where you're paying a lot more for added mill or to send to the top of the deck (Thought Collapse & Totally Lost). There's a lot of Blue "return target permanent to it's owner's hand" cards that are more affordable in CMC;- Cheaper + you can hold the mana back during your opponent's turn without raising so many eyebrows.
- General "If you can fit this in" Recs:
Deadeye Navigator [amazing recurrable blink]
Steady Progress, Tezzeret's Gambit, Fuel for the Cause, Contagion Clasp (I'd add Contagion Engine but it's $8-15) [more Proliferate options]
- Simic Manipulator, Zameck Guildmage, Master Biomancer, Bioshift [moving/multiplying counters]
- Command Tower [general goodstuff land]
re: ukpol
@theoutrider @udell_games Yeah, that's a pattern they've been doing for a while
@daylight I have not been keeping up with recent cycles and having played against a fair amount of Simic Commander stuff, Roalesk (and Vorel!) are *terrifying*. 0_0;
Is CC welcome?
re: game of thrones, cynical
@noiob Just a TV Exec breathing over GRRM's shoulder going "Have you thought about putting tits in that scene? You really should. And swords. ..Sword-tits? Yeah! Write that down, that's good stuff."
Autistic Spectrum Coordination Stuff
@variance Have you got access to a service that can test for Dyspraxia?
V. aware that the overlap in ASDs is enough that "Which label ya got?" gets kinda arbitrary, and whether it'd cost you is another big factor- I only got a Dyspraxia assessment b/c I was in Uni at the time.
But (over here at least) different ones sometimes unlock access to different services and institutional recognition for it at work/etc.
On a practical level, idk what really helps.. I picked up the habit of wearing an apron for meals and sticking rubber bumpers on the corners of all my furniture from another friend w/ Dyspraxia, and find those help. But generally I'm just clumsy as hell anyway. =V
re: ukpol
@theoutrider @udell_games Yeah this kinda stuff makes me deeply suspicious. ._.
(also whether it implies "Stuff /direct from the NHS/ is free, but any NHS services we've outsourced to our campaign-pals are another matter")
Life Stuff, Anxiety
I have a rlly scary assessment tomorrow, and I'm simultaneously trying to be 'prepared enough' and 'not over-prepare (out of anxiety/hyperfocus) & burn myself out'
However it goes, it will not be the end of the world, and I have gathered what resources and info I can reasonably gather.
Worldbuilding/Ontology Nerding
Really though I've been working on-and-off on a fantasy setting and thinking a lot about how this kind of stuff interacts with object distinctions and cultural systems of categorisation
How bonding with an item implies one party brings a system of categorization that defines the boundaries of the item..
Like, a sword doesn't inherently have sword-essence any more than separate [blade, hilt, bindings, crossguard, pommel] essences. A bag of pebbles or a woven garment could have one essence or many, depending on PoV.
So either you have a sort of Platonic Essence system where Objects innately have Object-ness, or it's in some way imbued by surrounding cultural context, either that of the object or the person who ensouls/awakens it.
If its personality and essence are shaped by that, that then raises further questions. Does the local culture's idea of what stone is like affect a carved stone sculpture, or does the carving change its object-essence and remove that kinda class inheritence? Would the sculpture have a personality like 'sculptures', 'stone', the thing it depicts, or some combination thereof?
This is the kind of thing I was up at 3am thinking about, hi
I might actually read Moorcock's Elric stuff if someone told me he gives his angstbound soulsword pettings and little snacks now and again.
