@sara the domimatrix
@saintajax33 oh, if you @ someone and it's not a reply and your permission settings allow it, those show up to your followers
it's kind of a gotcha
@raccoon ooh! looks like it finally happened!
social media in general
@Xkeeper something that especially doesn't help is how the environment makes it feel narcissistic to self-boost
where if there's something you wish had more visibility, it almost feels like a faux pas to make that happen
when things are so transient, if someone who might be interested just so happens to not be online for that hour or so, they might miss it forever
@ShugoWah oh wow, maybe i can use in game references without worrying about the 3ds activity log now
@Kit hee
i saw this, opened birdsite, and saw the picture immediately following this
i legit double-took
@bootsy it feels like i'm really on hold!
@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz oh, thanks!
and that's conky. it's a system monitor that you can script in lua to show any kind of information you want
the theme it's using right now is a variation of "conky grey", because i'm a sucker for the look, and it has a lot of practical information that i use pretty often (well, except for the clock around the date, but it looks weird without it, haha)
@ShugoWah a lot of linux concepts are in the misc sections of the manpages
so if you type "man 7" and hit tab a couple of times, a lot of fundamental topics will pop up!
of course, not all of these are important, but it's nice to know they're there if you get confused about a convention you see
the one describing the filesystem hierarchy you're looking at is "man 7 hier"
@ShugoWah hey! no prob!
i really liked VMs, so i actually used them a lot both ways!
that said, i actually haven't used a windows 10 vm for an extended period of time, so i don't know how it compares to windows 8 (which ran quite nicely after it started!)
@ShugoWah oh! and graphics acceleration is sometimes kinda tricky
and without that, the interface won't be as fast
so that's a bit of a caveat that can cost a bit of extra effort sometimes
@ShugoWah it depends what you use for VMs
stuff like VMWare (Player) lets you basically steal USB ports from the host system, so tablet drivers act on windows as if you plugged them right in
overall, VMs don't take a ridiculous amount of power to run (because they usually aren't actually emulating anything), but they'll likely take a bit longer to boot than a native system depending on what else you're doing at the time
@ShugoWah autocompletion is amazing!
you can tab complete commands you've never used before, and still be able to use them!
oh hi! i do computers, and sometimes draw stuff~ i like lo-fi things and cute aesthetics!
i also probably like you
(also, tagged #abdl ahead, soooo 🔞)
