@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz i'm not a morning person, so it's been tricky

but also, it's been a lot *less* tricky than anything else i've tried, so maybe it can help you too! ^^'

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz i feel this--i'm trying to get my sleep schedule in order too :s

i think the thing that has helped me the most so far was setting a routine that i start every night at 9:30 where i decide that i'm going to try *really* hard to not use my computer or phone, (it's not the end of the world if i do, it's just best-effort) and instead just draw or read

the idea is to be wound down by 10:30 so i can get to sleep and wake up every morning at the same time, weekend or not

@monorail i wonder why peeps are so inclined to tell others the things they are occupied with suck

re: executive dysfunction? idk

@karma i think the biggest point here is that, we all only have so much willpower in a day–but habits and routines kinda just bypass the requirement for that

but habits and routines about boring things are boring!! so use them to justify doing something nice for yourself to help them stick, because they can both make ED less of a hurdle, and also be generally good for your mental health (because it reinforces that you matter too! because you do!)

re: executive dysfunction? idk

@karma it's hard, yeah–but it can be a thing you invent to treat yourself too! like, is there something you enjoy doing that you can use to kinda segue into a routine?

for example, i only ever listen to podcasts when doing chores–and there are a podcasts that i actually *really* want to listen to in my free time

so suddenly, instead of having to do work, my mind sees it as an "uninterrupted time i can find out what happens next in this podcast", removing inertia

re: executive dysfunction? idk

@karma anyway, sorry for barging into your mentions

i just figured that if there was a chance i could make you feel less bad about this, it was probably worth it ^^

re: executive dysfunction? idk

@karma i'm not sure if it will help, but i found it easiest to start doing things by finding the part i can do without worrying about inertia, and the rest often follows

for example, it doesn't take effort for me to put on music, and if i make that a part of the "routine" for doing something, suddenly instead of being faced with a brick wall of inertia when i wanna do that thing, i'm just faced with the task of putting on music--something i'd probably do anyway!

pfft

popular gamer peeps worry me, so this is always extremely nice to see

@noiob *recalls years of npcs talking about physical buttons to players*

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz oh!! goodnight bailey!

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz it helped me a lot personally because it meant that the generalized "bad feels" suddenly had concrete reasons attached to them

and the cool thing about concrete reasons is that i can plan ways to topple those, and even having the prospect of direction makes me significantly less anxious in general

if you think it would help, i highly recommend giving it a shot! ^^

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz gosh, massive mood

i've actually recently started trying to write down my anxieties, and then trying to distill those into the root things they are actually about underneath the seemingly-random alarm bells that go off in my mind that make me not want to do the things i actually mega-want to do
