@hummingrain @acetone_kitten I might just end up Going Gecko after a few moths in NOLA. They're all over the place, and I have a couple of fond memories of them from my one trip there. (A bunch of tiny ones had swarmed a piece of public sculpture that @anthracite likes, and we had a lengthy and cordial conversation with the cute little buggers. ^__^ )

I think I'm about due for a species change. The last year has been the most intense period of change-- and willfully trying to shed old personality traits-- that I've been through since I was that damned lavavixen.

Also, I drifted back to feline mostly as a way of dealing with close-quarters living with Anthracite. A little mooncat is unobtrusive and easy to live with (except when she's looking over your shoulders trying to do your paperwork for you). Hell, even a Martian tiger can be housetrained. And neither is especially _needy_, which feels like a big thing that got me into trouble at Transliminal.

But Anthy and I have settled into each other a lot easier than I expected, and well... a lot of the things the cats were dreamt up for no longer exist for me. And I don't need to feel like the cozy feline center of my world in order to matter, anymore.

Honestly... after the past year... I don't feel like I need to matter much at all. I withdrew almost completely and survived. And now I'm heading into a new environment, one where I'll have no contacts, no support but Anthy... and a ton of opportunity.

So, no more social animals for me. Maybe I'm not cut out for them. I'm something of an exile, for reasons I largely deserved, and you know... self-sufficiency sounds pretty good.

So what now? Crow? Coyote? Rat? I love all those scrappy little urban creatures, the ones that aren't *dangerous* exactly, but put a little bit of pressure back on human expansion. The ones that are clearly in the wings, waiting for the humans to fuck up so they can take over. It's all a bit fraught, since I feel like I'm intruding on @acetone_kitten's territory -- is it weird to copy your ex's species? -- but hey, if anything anywhere is open-source, it's a coyote. :)

This basically empties my to-do list for the time being, un-budgets a huge amount of money, and... well, there's also the "no sharp jab in a sensitive location" thing which is nice. :D I was braced for the worst (next to blindness, at least) this morning, and really did not expect to get off this easy...

Eyes are still blurry from the exam so I'll keep it short: I'm probably fine. ^__^ No "invasive procedures" needed, retinal drusen were small and crunchy just like they should be, and just gotta keep it monitored.
